That's true. Conversely, the cap hit exceeds the salary paid in later years so that's why teams get in cap he'll farther on down the road.
No cap hell and the salary paid doesnt exceed as much as people believe.

Rodgers has the biggest contract in NFL. His avg annual is 33.5m. His cap hits per year, 20.9, 26.5, 32.6, 33.5 , 37 and 25. It doesn't actually exceed it until year 5. Doesn't hit until year 4. Year 5 when it's 37m they can cut him and save 25.5m. There will be no cap hell and there is no cap hell.

Rodgers avg annual is 33.5m. But in his first 4 years his avg cap hit is 28.3. The avg annual is good for the agents and player's so they can be slotted on the pay scale with their peers, and fun for us to argue about but it's the guarantees that matter. 51m of the total contract in the last 2 years which got him the 33m label isn't guaranteed and he might not ever see it.

His minimum average cap hit is $33.5M. If they cut him early it will go up because of his prorated signing bonus which has not hit the cap yet. So it could exceed that.

It all matters.

Paying DLaw and ACooper 34m this year is 10x worse than having 10m in Dead Money 4 years from now

It is simple math but keep believing in Common Core

Maybe you should run the salary cap for Dallas. Lol

Show em how to do it?

Doesn’t matter. Lol

Well just do whatever now and worry about down the road.

Duh, don’t you know the cap always rises?

Yes, his avg cap hit would be 33.5m IF he sees the whole contract .

If he is cut after year 4, 51m would not be part of his 134 total and would no longer be paid to him so no, it all doesn't matter. There would be 11.5 dead money from his prorated bonus. Money already in his pocket and money that will be on the cap if he's on the team or not. So they would save 51m of cap space in 2 years for 11.5 dead money.

If they cut him after year four he would had made in cash 31.25m a year on avg which still isn't the 33m a year annual. But his avg cap hit would still be 28.3m a year.

He'll they could cut him after year 3 and save 10.5 in cap space that year amd 61.5m for the next 3 years and have 23m dead money that again, is on the books if he's on the team or not. His avg cap hit through 3 years would've been 26.6m and he would have pocketed in cash 34.3m a year in avg through 3 years.

You have to add all the money he was paid and divide it by how many years he played to know what his true cap hit was per year. It will go up because of the dead money.

His true cap hit through 4 years would be 28.3m on avg. In cash he would've have made 31.25m on avg a year. The 11.5 dead money is included with that 31.25.

Year 1- 66.9m he received in his pocket. The 11.5m of dead money if he's cut after year 4 is include in that 66.9m.

Year 2- made 15m in cash bringing the total to 81.9m

Year 3- 21.1m in cash bringing the total to 103m

Year 4- 22m in cash bringing total to 125m

Which avgs 31.25m. All while his avg cap hit is 28.3m

So after 4 years GB would've taken a avg cap hit of 28.3m, paid him in cash 31.25m on avg for 4 years. They would save 50m in cap space for the remaining 2 years and 11.5m of dead money that he had already pocketed and would be on the cap if he's on the team or not. Dead money isn't a extra cap hit, its money already in his pocket and accounted for.

Thanks to Nightman for the updates, but at this point does cap space really even matter?

We dont participate in free agency unless its for dirt cheap contracts.
That is the real tragedy

The FO actually tries to appear Cap Poor intentionally so they don't draw National attention and have to explain why they don't buy any FAs

The 34m we are paying DLaw and ACooper is twice what it should be....but it wastes 17m of valuable space

ZMartin has 8m of his base guaranteed later today .....it should be automatically restructured but they will probably even pass on that

Those 3 moves alone would create another 25m in Cap Space

I guarantee we would have a better FS and stud DT right now and still have room for Dak

Like I said, you should run the cap for them. But what the heck, its not a real cap anyway. After all, we can just keep pushing money down the road. And the cap just keeps increasing anyway.

We have 125m in Cap Space next year.... you are 100% right

And if you ran the cap we would have 170 million and we would be filled with all pros at every position.

Have you applied for Stephen Jones position lately?
