Are we going to waste our first pick on a DE?

Or are we going to finally break this bad habit and draft elsewhere? Maybe draft interior DL or a Safety with the 1st pick, haven't done that in 16 years (13 years if you want to count our 2nd 1st round pick in Marcus Spears).

I just don't want another overrated DE that can be had as an undrafted FA and they better not be looking at TE when we have 10 already.

Considering as of today you don’t have an adequate pass rusher at RE or LE then yes it will be.

Tank who knows especially since he needs labrum surgery.

Crawford/Armstrong/Taco all just edge setters in run game IMO

I hope not. It is one of the positions I would expect to get zero production out of with pick 58.

I would go Safety with that pick. If the right WR was there and I thought I could get a starting caliber S at 90 then I could be nudged in that direction.

If DE is BPA at the time...how the hell is that a waste?
you can NEVER have enuff pass rushers...especially if your best may hold out.

If the chips fall that way it is a no brainer, I would hope they would have a plan for a more realistic scenario.

Just how serious are Ferguson's off field concerns? I know he was convicted of simple battery during his freshman year, but I'm not familiar with the details. Did he strike a woman or was it a case of boys being boys? Is there tape? I also see he was charged with public intoxication....

You seemingly have a higher opinion of our current DE situation than I do.

DE is a need. As is DT. As is S. If the DE is the best player on the board at that spot, you take him. It's a no brainer.

I think they have to go after a DE because Taco was a poor pick, so they have to make up. The DE they get may be able to kick inside to 3Tech on passing downs or they may just go after a Ferguson type.

I don't think highly of our DEs. These other positions have been a need or a bigger reason why we haven't advanced in the playoffs. I say screw pouring resources into ends until we can build our defense with some worthy tackles and safeties otherwise we'll always be behind in that regard, like we have. It's been 18 years since we had a safety teams were at one point scared of. We've had some interior help during that time, but we haven't been fully invested in that with some true to position players.

I'm not saying it's a waste, but Taco was a reach because it was a need pick and that was at 28. Safety is a need, DT is a need, LB, TE. I'm not pigeon holing the pick to strictly DE. If it's not there, it's not there. It wasn't there at 28. You have to see how the draft plays out up to that point. Plus I'm hoping Armstrong can make a push on passing downs. My point was Jerry needs a DE and he'll reach no matter the case. Just not a very smart move IMO.

Yeah I see, true. Jerry may have to just roll with Taco n Dorance and see what happens...I agree they've invested a lot already there. Other positions needs to be taken care of.

Hopefully Taco emerges in year 3, and I actually like Armstrong, but being someone in to create competition and hopefully depth. You can’t have too many pass rushers.
