The Cowboys have gone into this new season year knowing their future money is allocated into the their current players over the next few years.

*Cameron Flemmings re-signed for 2 years, and he played very well when his number was called.
*Tavon Austin was a guy I really wanted to re-sign he brings a different dimension to the offense, speed threat, and a lethal return guy.
*Hurns not a total fan of this re-sign, although they can get out of it if a better option opens up but it removes the need to draft the position.
*Sean Lee another guy not thrilled with the injury history but if he can stay healthy at a reduced role his leadership is worth keeping around and maybe even his play on a snap reduction.
*Jason Witten, same as Lee.
*Justin March-Lillard another LB who knows the system.
*Christian Covington guy who was probably playing in the wrong type of defense who can give some juice and fight for a starting job at the 3-tech.

Going into the off-season we were worried about.
RB depth: Still needs to be addressed
WR: Unless there is a steal or a late round pick up in the draft we don't need to worry.
TE: Witten with the young guys like WR don't think it will be addressed unless there's a steal or late round guy.
O-line: You always look to add quality players but we are 2 deep almost across the line.
DE: This needs to be addressed, and I think we will look to do so in FA and the draft.
DT: Same as DE
LB: Might add depth on day 3 or UDFA, but a good looking group right now with depth
CB: 5 deep right now and you can never have too many guys I can see them looking to add depth/ quality if available.
S: This is a spot I don't know if they will address pre draft, but if they add to the d-line don't be surprised if there is a strong emphasis to get a few guys in the draft.

Over a month away we have 3 spots we need to address on the defense lots of guys available in FA who would be upgrades with money to spend. Do not be surprised if we look to move up if a guy drops.

Right on Daygo.

I see needs at DE, DT, S, RB n WR, but the defensive needs are the most important to me. Although, a RB2 could sneak on to this team in the 3rd-4th round.

Would really like to come out the draft with a few DL and a S because those were the biggest issues after the Rams game, imo.

Lastly, a TE who could put Rico out to pasture and surpass Witt this time next year would be great too.

My tune hasn’t really changed outside of DE becoming a need.

DE, DT or S early and often for me.

I think my point was with so little needs we could really focus our attention on filling DE, DT, S and we can trade up or invest multiple picks at the position if needed.

I'm definitely open to trading into the top 50 if one of the top DEs / DTs falls.

I'd be more hesitant with safety, as it seems all of the best prospects are 2nd/3rd rounders so someone will fall in our lap.

I agree with you 100% as far as a DE, and I might do it for DT if he is more than just a base 1-tech.

There isn't a S I feel you have to move up to get and be willing to sit back and pick if that we decide to pick at 58. Now I would consider moving up in the 3rd if a guy we like is there and I think the 3rd round is a spot we might move up in if we move at all.

'Almost perfect'?
You have to be kidding
It is ABSOLUTELY PERFECT

the only way for it to be any more 'perfect' would be if we hadn't even signed the bargain FA we actually did and didn't have any picks in the draft until round 6

Yea I’ve changed my tune on S. For a while I was thinking they’d go early but I don’t think that’s the case.

You could probably get a guy like Hooker or Savage in the 3rd.

I would love to add a veteran DE like Houston, Ansah, or Perry on 1 year deals.

Off the top of my head, with our first pick being the bottom of round 2 - DE, should not be the pick. An end of round 2 player will not be a starter. We could, I say could, get a starter at Safety, DT. Even TE would not start with Witten back. No Olineman would start.
No corner would start. No LBer would start over Smith and LVE. No RB starting over Zeke.
So, all options are open for depth, thru the lower rounds, but if we are looking for a starter. Only a few positions really are really an option....

As much as we fans want some of those top free agents, just not happening under Stephen. They have done a good job resigning our own so far meaning need to see Lawrence and the others signed or extended.

I tbink we could still sign or trade for 3 guys. We need a safety, RB, and DE. I see the second week now as a definite possible. A safety like Geathers or heck maybe Berry on a one year deal. I still think a trade with Cleveland for Ogbah DE and Johnson RB for the right price could be on the table.

If those should happen then the draft sets up for them to do whatever they want.

Hey I agree, I just don’t think the FO is on board.

They need to get on board with something, because you aren't going to get a starting DE, DT, and S if your first pick is at 58.

There might be a 3rd wave of FA signings before the draft, but there's still ton of talent and they might wait after to see whats still available and the price would drop significantly considering the suitor list should drop significantly especially at DE and DT based on the strength of the draft.

Here is who's still available as of right now.

I think we could certainly get a starting S at 58, and also a DE/DT that could eat a ton of snaps in our rotation.

But yea, my preference would certainly be to grab a proven vet or 2 on a short term deal while the youngsters develop if we can.

Without a 1st and picking so late in the second we need to look at this as a 2 year fix and that means go out in FA and sign guys to 1 year deals.
