But they drafted that Armstrong dude last year, just as all the other DE's in the 4th and 5th rounds in previous years that have not worked out.

Why don't you think Armstrong worked out? He played over 25% of defensive snaps his rookie year as a 5th round pick. That's pretty good.

Remains to be seen. Every year it seem they draft a 4th or 5th round DE they are high on, then nothing. Russell, Tapper, Armstrong.
Though I did like Armstrong better than the others, he shown more potential. Hope for the best from him of course. Will see how he improves.

Armstrong seems more likely than guys like Tapper to become a decent rotational DE if we looked at what we knew about each 10 months after they were drafted.

Also, I LOVE FERGUSON. Like his motor.
The chatter about Jaylon Ferguson is getting louder for Dallas.
He is an official visit and there are rumblings that if hes in reasonable striking range, we may even trade up. Same goes for Jonathon Abrams.

I respect your opinion but will have to respectfully disagree on both the reach and the project.

I agree. He was a reach IMO as well. I never liked him as a Pass Rush DE. No matter, he's a Cowboy so I hope to hell he proves me wrong.

I’d move up for Ferguson or a similar pass rusher, but wouldn’t for a S.

There’s like 5/6 dudes that are all fairly similar in terms of grade and ability and some will fall.

He was a reach.
You were correct that he was not as good as his draft position. I give credit for calling that one.

However, he was not a reach.

A reach is a player picked earlier than the general consensus of the legit draft media.

It's hard to find any legit media that didn't have him as a 1st round pick.

There were even some media that had him as a possible top 10 pick.

Yeah. I realize that he was slated to go around when we took him. That's true. It's not like the Frederick pick, although the team was right and the talking heads were wrong on that one.

I also realize that DEs tend to go higher in the draft than they probably should because it is a "money" position and they are seldom dominant right out of the gate.

I guess my issue with taking a guy like Taco where we took him is that he has already used two of his four years (not counting 5th year option) and he has not really had any significant impact.

I am hoping, like most on this board, that he will turn it on and justify the pick. But if he doesn't turn it on before his second contract, you might as well just pay a proven guy in free agency than paying your own in that scenario. There's not any difference in cap, although the risk may be higher not knowing the FA as well as your own player.

Right now, us paying Tank is no different than paying any other FA. We just know a little but more about him and he doesn't factor into the comp pick formula. That's about it.

I give you you credit for not liking the pick from the beginning. You were adamantly against it as I recall.

I can"t really fault the team for the pick considering Taco was a near-consensus 1st round talent.

It was not a Shante Carver in the 1st type of pick where Carver was considered about a 4th round talent by most and even said himself that he expected to be drafted in the 5th round.

Yeah, this is l a pick that I still hope proves me wrong. I didn't like his 40 time which a I know some view as irrelevant. I figured he would be stout against the run but a poor pass rusher, especially early because he would need to use power rather than speed to get it done.

Taco seems adequate against the run when he plays assignment sound. He's just deficient (so far) in rushing the passer. This should be the year that he is strong enough to beat OTs with power --if he is ever going to do that.
