By biggest problem with this is that if you are that closed minded and that specific about who you want then you can't let it leak out

Both Hill and LVE were players others didn't want but that may not always be the case. Then someone can jump your pick

I don't disagree. You are counting on teams either a) not believing the rumors (although they have now proven true two years in a row) or b) not valuing the player as much as you, which brings into question why you value the player more than the rest of the teams.

There is no doubt that DT is critical in today's NFL. The Super Bowl had 3 current or former all-pro DTs. What I have a problem with is we are among the league worst at takeaways over the last 7 years and we continue to not spend draft resources on the safety position.

I hope the kid balls out. I mean if a lot of us were in that room we take thornhill and see if hill or saunders drops to us at 90.

I think that's what most of us would have done, and it may turn out that we were 100 percent right or 100 percent wrong. That's why I don't complain too much about the picks (at least not on the front end).

It did appear after the first round ended (based on the information that leaked out) that we were targeting Hill from that point forward. I don't know if that was simply based on who we expected to be there (and it turned out that way) or we liked Hill that much.

It's kind of like LVE last year. It was pretty clear going into the first day that he was our targeted pick. (I hope it turns out as well.) It seems like last year that there were a few players we might have considered instead if they had fell, and it might be the same with Hill.
The reality... what most of us occasionally forget about the draft, is that teams work from a much smaller board than what we see from the Kipers, Bruglers, etc. They have a much clearer vision, entering a draft, of who will be available and who they will take. Some media person made a point about Mayock. He was hammered for taking the Clemson kid with the first pick. But if had been a media draft analyst instead of a GM he would have had the Clemson kid near the top of his board and people would have thought the pick was in line with expectations.

Teams disqualify players for many more things than is generally pointed out -- character and health, of course, but also scheme fit, personality, mental aptitude, etc. Five centuries ago, I heard a story about Tom Landry, which I assume to be true, though I'm not sure. Someone asked him one time which running back would he choose if he could add any of them to the Cowboys. Supposedly he said Jim Taylor was the best fit for his system. Then he said something like -- "If I had Jim Brown, I'd change the system."

Of course, Landry and other coaches aren't likely to change their system to accommodate a second round caliber safety or defensive tackle.

I can't be the only dude on this forum that thought we made some good picks?

I liked our draft, especially picking McGovern. That's absolutely huge.

I like the draft. It was boring and uneventful (without a first day pick) but they drafted players that will provide more depth and add lots of competition.

as Stephen gains more and more control, there comes with this a new line of thinking. dt is now a position of importance. ergo, the hill pick. I truly hope the issues with a former coach are behind him. watching the game films of the young man show an explosiveness we haven't seen in years.

I'd like to know why the Trysten Hill pick was so pre-meditated and why they didn't have an open mind about drafting others with that pick..?
Colts regular season game to solidify our spot or the Rams skull f****** us in the divisional round? Take your pick. We’ve neglected the interior of our D-line hoping Irving or M. “The Foot” Collins would be ready to impact games.

So here we are with Hill who can hopefully impact the interior. I think he can if he remains coachable. He’s everything you’d want in a DT. Let’s hope so.

I’m teetering in the direction he will be our version of the Eagles #91. A force!

Until he gets new coaches it doesn't matter what positions we draft. You know what would have happened in the Rams game had we had this kid Hill. The same dang thing.

I agree with McClay's comment about Hill spending his 21st birthday with Marinelli.

I spent my 21st birthday getting knee-walking drunk. If I had come into a couple of million dollars a few days before that, I wouldn't be here today.

It seems like being broke and spending your coins getting knee-walking drunk was the best investment of your life!

It kept your reckless at bay!

The man up stair didnt give you too much or too much little.

Our rival Giants had 1 excellent(Strahan)/2 Good pass rushers(Osi and Tuck) in 2007 and below avg. safeties in Gibril Wilson and Butler..

But their 2011 trophy squad again had 1 excellent(JPP)/2 Good pass rushers(Osi and Tuck)but with much better safety players in Kenny Phillips and Antrel Rolle.

So I guess it can be won with good to average safety play but their common denominator was strong pass rush.

Certainly gone are the pre-cap days of our stock pile of good to excellent d linemen and safeties alike. Those were the days. :)

And I think the D line emphasis will make Smith and LVE even better!
