The McGovern pick was a great value pick and I can't believe we got him at 90. The pick at 53 might have been a reach but if that's your DC's pet cat and you think he won't be around with your next pick then it's okay to just go ahead and pick him at 58. I have no problems at all with the draft picks we got. Will McClay can keep his job as far as I'm concerned.

From all the quotes from Jerry, Stephen and McClay, it all seems like they are trying to talk them into liking the draft. There is no genuine excitement about it. No high fives or big smiles all day long from the war room.

Bottom line is they gambled and it came back to bite them. The draft from the 3rd round to through the 4th round didnt go their way. So they were forced to take a guard, which wasnt a need and then basically trade out of the 4th round at the end.

If Hill doesnt become the stud DT they are hoping for then this draft takes on bomb status.

I'd like to know why the Trysten Hill pick was so pre-meditated and why they didn't have an open mind about drafting others with that pick..?

Marinelli had mucho contact with Hill predraft. Everything else being equal, that's gonna bias your selection.

But maybe it will turn out to be worth it. The more I hear, the more I like him. Big guy, freaky athletic. And while lots of interaction can be expected to bias Marinelli, it also gave him a chance to see things he might not like too. Apparently, there weren't so many of them.

Unlike the Claiborne pick, they didn't make this one in ignorance. I've come around on this one.

that second tweet is pretty good.

Yeah. You start to see why they loved the kid and wouldn’t want to risk letting him fall to 90. My guess is, in addition to white board work, Marinelli spent some time working with the kid on hand technique and angles. By now I bet they’re pretty sure they can coach him up and help him take full advantage of that crazy burst. If so, there’s no question he’a worth the 58th pick.

Most likely, you are right on the latter point. But we'll see. Drafts can be weird. Remember when they chose Ratliff in the 7th round after adding Spears in Round 1? One never knows. I kinda thing Hill is going to be OK. But maybe I'm whistling past the graveyard.

Every last NFL Fan on draft day: OMG!! Can you believe how far off the team was from draft publications?

Every last NFL Fan five years after the same draft: LOL!! Can you believe how far off the team was from draft publications?

Hill is the key to this draft. Marinelli fell so in love with the kid at the combine or whatever that he probably begged them to take him. They passed a great safety that fell to them.

Employee's make recommendations....bosses make decisions. At the end of the day, if this doesn't work out...it's on SJ/McClay.

I know. Unbelievable.

Next we'll find out he didn't even pick Mel Kiper's brain while Mel was at the salon getting a sweet blow-out, reminiscent of Steel Magnolias.

The least he could have done, really.

Nah, Mel is yesterday's news. Today it's all about what Dane Brugler thinks. We even have a thread dedicated to him.

Sure, but they relied on Marinelli. Do you think Jones or McClay know exactly what kind of DT Marinelli specifically wants for his 1 tech in his specific defense?

If this pick Bombs, then Marinelli has to go. Supposedly the 1 tech is the key to this defense. And in 5 or 6 years Marinelli has been unable to find a great one and we have passed on plenty of good DT's because supposedly they didnt fit his system.

I am beyond impressed by guys who are not just master Youtube draft talent evaluators, but who can also read minds based on quotes.

That is a clear, public message to Taco. It sounds like if he does not show substantial advancement in his game this camp, he will not be on the final roster out of training camp.

after how many years together??? yes, I expect them to know they systems. They are the bosses...if they don't know...then that's a problem and that goes beyond Rod pounding the table for a player. I'm sure all coaches pound the table for a player. Seemed like Moore did for Pollard.

Anything is more impressive than a guy with no opinion. Some do the research and some dont.

Jones expertise is NOT in Marinellis defense. Thats why he hired him. Owners hire other people to be the head of departments because you simply cant be an expert on everything.

Lol, so now McClay is responsible for game time coaching, scheme and individual on-the-field performance.

What exactly are the coaches and coordinators for again?
A lot of pro bowl players the last few years to blame player assessment.

I expect the Director of Player personnel (McClay) to know what players the team needs for the systems they run. They've been together long enough to know. it's not like Rod got there last year. It's been a few years of day in and day out talking, watching tape etc. All picks are on SJ/McClay at the end of the day.
