This is a pretty good article on NFL QB controversies through the years. The Cowboy one they list is the classic Staubach versus Morton one, but that's not the only QB controversy the team has ever had. There was the Danny White versus Gary Hogeboom one in about 1984 I think. At one point it seemed that there would be a Troy Aikman versus Steve Walsh controversy, since in '89 Aikman was the first round draft choice, but Walsh was the only Cowboys QB to win a game that year. That one fizzled out quickly though as it became obvious that Aikman was best.

The number one controversy they list is Montana versus Young with the 49ers, and for obvious reasons.

I definitely remember Jim McMahon having a big mouth. If I had been his teammate, I would have been thinking, "Shut the bleep up, Jim."

That got hot in 2014 after that bad Chiefs loss.

Then Brady won 3 more rings hahaha

That got newspapers hot trying to sell a qb controversy for a few hot clicks.

Gave us the infamous "We're onto Cincinnati"

The serious controversy that actually got fans riled up For Real was 2001's BLEDSOE OR BRADY?

Interestingly, Belichick apparently never liked Bledsoe that much. There might have been a replay of Belichick vs. Bernie Kosar 1993 in a year or two if not for Bledsoe's injury clearing the path for Brady early.

Steve Grogan / Tony Eason was a good one, probably the greatest qb conundrum in NE franchise history... And at one point, the controversy became a three headed monster when Flutie came to Foxborough...

Morton/Staubach was a good one...especially with the platooning.

Geno, you're old enough to have seen it. Correct me, if I'm wrong, but didn't Landry actually
rotate them every play in one game? I think, after that game, both QBs went to him and
demanded he pick one guy.

I think they alternated plays and games. But I'm not positive either.

That was a case where none of the answers at QB were good.

Grogan played like 10 years past the point where he was cooked, his last full good season was 1979 and he somehow still started games in 1990.

Tony Eason was soft to the point where his own offensive line wanted him to die. HOF OL John Hannah literally threatened to quit playing during the Super Bowl (!!!) if Eason wasn't benched after the first couple drives. By 1987 he was toast.

Flutie threw more picks than touchdowns in New England, averaged 85 yards a game and had a 61 passer rating. Even for the 1980s that was incredibly bad.
