Where do you stand on Garrett and why?

And that was a big mistake. You don't hire your HC in waiting before your HC. It completely undermined Wade. And that was a complete failure.
I totally agree. It was one of the most dysfunctional moves in NFL history. A total joke naming Garrett” the future of the Dallas Cowboys “, then naming Wade HC. One of the greatest examples why we are so screwed under Jerry. It’s amazing we’ve had any success at all.

It took Garrett 3 years on the job to learn when to call a timeout. He manages the game to kick FGs. Ultra conservative with all this talent. It's taken him 7 years to start going for it on 4th down in opponents territory, and if it's a big game or close he might punt or FG.

Ready to move on.
He only goes for it on 4th down a lot now because Jerry called him out for not going on 4th down against the Texans. So Garrett was embarrassed and now goes for it whenever it is even questionable. One play and the criticism that followed totally changed how Garrett manages 4 downs.

This is an issue......Garrett can’t adjust unless he is publicly called out

I just don’t understand it...they pay coaches to think and adjust at a moments notice

I’d agree. Unfortunately winning championships wasn’t enough with Jimmy as Jerry is pursuing more credit himself as a Football Guy and why unless we need support for a new stadium or we hit rock bottom financially Jerry isn’t going to pursue the caliber HC we’d want.

It’s why I’ve become more supportive of Garrett as I haven’t seen a better culture here with any other Puppet. Ultimately I believe talent is our best solution to stay competitive.

And Garretts connection to our storied past playing for Jimmy and his dad a scout with Landry gives me something to root for I didn’t have with other puppets.

Fair enough.

Although I’m not a fan of Garrett I’m kidding myself that Jerry would bring in anything different and let it play out.

You are probably right with your point in the end.

He's 2nd behind Bellichek in wins the last 3 years or whatever, with what the same folks say has a bad QB at the helm and a terrible owner..not sure what more some of you want.
And who are you going to put in his place? For every Sean Mcvay there's 10 Ben Mcaddoos and Chip Kelly's

Chip Kelly was a great NFL coach the problem was he was beyond butt on the management side.....had he not gotten rid of star players on the eagles it’s possible he’s still coaching them

Garrett is flat out lazy! His system doesnt game plan against opponents he tries to out talent them. That's why we see the Cowboys do the same things week in and week out.
When he does need to make in game adjustments he struggles. He doesnt gather his players and talk to the at all during the game. He claps but you never see him talking to his online or wrs or QB with a Microsoft tablet going over what is going on out on the field. On the flip side I know the players like him and Jerry is comfortable with him but those are not good enough reasons for him to keep his job. He isn't doing it effectively. Garrett is too much of a spectator and not enough of a coach.

He’s go to go. Why? See the last decade and all the talented careers wasted under his leadership.

The Cowboys have stated countless times how much they value Will McClay and the praise he receives is well-earned. Over the last five years, the Cowboys have won the NFC East three out of five tries but let’s just focus on what the new regime has done. In the last three seasons Dallas has a win/loss record of 32-16 and two division titles. That’s the best three-year stretch since the 2007-2009 Cowboys under Wade Phillips were 33-15 in his first three years as head coach. That 32-16 is also third-best in franchise history with 1992-1994 reigning supreme (37-11). Today’s NFL makes it harder to find consistency year-over-year and the Cowboys are well aware that they haven’t done enough over the past two decades...

Robert Quinn is not your run-of-the-mill bargain free agent, he’s been the victim of scheme change and attrition. Quinn has still managed to average just under 6.5 sacks over the past three years. The Cowboys will start Quinn opposite of their new $105 million-dollar-man, DeMarcus Lawrence, an instant boost to the pass rush. Randall Cobb might have had a couple of injury-riddled years in Green Bay but is still under 30 and Dallas got him at a significantly lower price tag than what it would have taken to re-sign Cole Beasley. Don’t forget about three quality depth additions to the defense in safety George Iloka and interior linemen Christian Covington and Kerry Hyder. Each of those guys had solid production in limited playing time, not to mention, they all have playoff experience...

A bird’s eye view of this roster would suggest that the Cowboys are ready to take that next step. They have without a doubt the deepest offensive line in football, anchored by All-Pros Tyron Smith, Travis Frederick, and Zack Martin. Behind them are a handful of backups that could easily start on several NFL rosters. The offense is led by three multi-time Pro Bowlers in QB Dak Prescott, RB Ezekiel Elliott, and WR Amari Cooper, all 25 years or younger. Those three players are likely to receive new extensions fairly soon. The defense has two young studs at linebacker with Jaylon Smith and Leighton Vander Esch. The aforementioned best edge rusher is locked up long-term with reinforcements around him...

No matter how one divies up those poker chips, they all occurred under the leadership of Jason Garrett. Like that or not...:starspin:

I like Garrett as a leader of men. We can say whatever we want about him (and have), but I have never seen this team quit on him. I have seen teams quit on their coaches before and it's not pretty (the last time Dallas did so was 2010 under Wade Phillips).

Having said that, I think he needs to reach at least the NFC Championship this year to keep his job. I like Garrett as a person and the way he approaches things, but as a true X's and O's coach I find him severely lacking.

In summary, I think another coach may have taken the 2014, 2016, and 2018 versions of this team much farther.

Garrett with his tenure now only Landry has more victories in Cowboy history. He’s the winningest HC in the Puppet era.

This “ has done nothing” is another example of the Super Bowl or Bust mentality.

If you're not playing to win the super bowl every season then quit playing the flubbing game. Everyone on the Pats staff thinks this way, and how many times have they won it all the past 20 years? How many times in the same 20 year period did they play in the AFC championship game?

Simply being competitive is for losers.

Do you buy scratch-off lottery tickets because you enjoy scratching the film off with a coin? No, you buy them because you want to win something.

I don’t play the lottery. And never bought a scratch off.

When Jerry either steps down or decides to bring in a legit staff and get out of the way then I’ll take winning more serious or a priority here.
