By "can't run at will," I meant they literally wouldn't have the ball to do it.

Then you probably should have clarified it. Because your original post read (and others read it as such as well) that the Cowboys offense was ineffective, therefore the Rams run game became more effective due to that.

Yes, a run game is more effective when the other team's offense plays bad.

This is his last stand.
I hope this is true, but sadly I believe that unless the team goes 6-10 or worse, Jerry the king of sports excuse making, will create some kind of giant whopper of an excuse for his red headed adopted son. Remember, accountability is never used on anyone in this organization near the top. It is always a mid to low level assistant coach or lower rung player that is the scapegoat.

Most Cowboys fans get it. If this team doesn’t make a deep playoff run, this HC more than deserves walking papers. But we also get that this owner picks HCs NOT based on who gives us the best chance to win a championship. He picks them first and foremost based on who will let him meddle and play with his toy like a drunk frat boy.

Jerry Jones is this team’s fatal flaw- the last 23 years are easily explained with his obsessive overreach and refusal to follow organizational best practices. He is THE biggest problem this team must overcome every year.

But when the team comes out from the opening gun and runs it down your throat before your team even gets their 2nd possession you have bigger issues than an offense that bogged down in the 2nd quarter.

I am not sure what your goal here really is. By far the biggest problem this team had last January against the Rams was they got outschemed and out played on defense. It was well documented after the game how the Rams used motion and formations to try to confuse our young LBs and they believed our DL was tipping where they were going to stunt before the snap.

The Cowboys offense was no better than 3rd or 4th (and that's a fairly distant 3rd or 4th at that) on a list of problems as to why our defense got run over by a train that game.

I won't argue your points, but I will say this. Jones has put even his own back against the wall with his calculated decision to not give Garrett his extension. He can't put the toothpaste back in the tube now. The die has been cast. If he was truly looking for an excuse for Garrett, extending him after that playoff win was the perfect time. And yet he clearly chose not to. He can't go back and extend Garrett after a disappointing season now. There's no going back.

Yes, the run defense was bad. You don't need to keep telling me that the Rams could run the ball, I know. The point is that if the Dallas offense could have done anything in the second or third quarter, the Rams wouldn't have the same TOP and, as a byproduct, the run game is less effective.

The biggest problem was that the offense couldn't stay on the field. The NFL is built to play offense, and Dallas couldn't do it. They scored 15 points before garbage time.

The defense's biggest problem wasn't the offense. It's preposterous to suggest that.

The Rams had like 40 yards rushing before we even touched the ball. They had close to 90 yards rushing before we even touched the ball a 2nd time.

It seems you have an agenda here - either you are uber defensive of the defense or just looking to dump on Linehan and Garrett.

I didn't say the defense's biggest problem was the offense. The team's biggest problem was the offense. If the Rams came out and threw the ball well, are we having this same discussion?

My only agenda is that I think it is dumb to suggest that the biggest problem for a team that had a top-5 run defense last year is the run defense because if you have a good offense, your run defense is never put to the test like it was.

I mean, did people forget the Saints game? Or the Seahawks game? Or the Eagles OT game? The defense carried this team all year, and when it struggled, the offense could never return the favor. Go ahead and look at the games that the Cowboys gave up over 100 yards rushing. In all of them, the Cowboys offense did absolutely nothing except for week 17. No run defense can be successful when the offense can't stay on the field and score points.

Wasn't really garbage time, because if Dallas got the stop on Goff's rollout- we might have had a minute plus (?) for magic.

But your point is correct. The Rams really kept us in the game running so often, and indeed they were right to do so. We couldnt stop it.

Zeke could not get untracked and our OC went away from in-breaking, deep-middle routes which we featured on 2nd drive to inexplicable random shots deep, bubble screen type plays, etc.

Bottom line on that game: we were outplayed and got beat.

We played with little scheme on both sides of the ball, relied on physical superiority the Cowboys displayed much of the season vs opponents and LA was up to the challenge.

Play of the game to me, was Jones' Illegal contact when game was still in question. I also think we were banged up after the Seattle contest worse than most think.

And if you can't handle being questioned, that's on YOU.

Yeah, apparently 'internet guy opinion' and hindsight are much better indicators. Clearly.

Yeah, as long as you'll preach measurable statistics "doesn't really mean squat", I'll use that "one Internet guys opinion", because that is what is truly "idiotic". I mean you seriously want to try to discard measured performance in favor of opinion? That's truly rich.

I've already won. I have performance numbers while you have bupkiss. I don't have to play or learn anything.

Thanks for clarifying that.

Yeah, that's it, you terrify me.

Put me on ignore and lets be done with it.

Thanks.......

Again, it was implied in your post.

Secondly, in the Rams game only, yes, the run defense was probably the single biggest problem this team had. Was it an anomaly? Probably. They were a very good run D all year. But for that game, if you are listing problems the Cowboys had in that game, Run D is a clear #1 because, again, the team got GASHED by the Rams run game before the Cowboys even got their 2nd possession of the game.

"implied in your post" is a good way to say "I'm misquoting you."

The Cowboys were winning 7-6 when they got their second possession. It doesn't matter that the Rams were running the ball, because they didn't score.

I agree coaching is our biggest flaw....namely the HC is our biggest weakness.......if Moore is as advertised then Garrett will get the credit without having to do much more than stand on the sidelines.
