There are some similarities between these two. Capable of carrying the ball, lining up out of the slot as a WR, and being effective blockers out of the slot. We should interest in Hurd during the draft process, and eventually drafted Pollard.

My wonder is when they scouted these two, if they had specific visions of utilizationion.

if they did, it's as Pollard solely as a running back because this offense has shown zero ability to be creative and move players around.

Yay Garrett!

Did you miss Zeke splitting out wide last year? Or being targeted 95 times and catching 77 passes (most on the team? Have you forgotten Lance Dunbar already?

So I guess this year will be a constant comparison of Hurd to Pollard, though we had no chance of getting Hurd since he wean that far above when we picked.
But it will be typical anyway.

But do you think they had the same thing in mind when they looked at these two in terms of how they were going to use them?

No, not the exact same role but there would be some overlap with how they could use them.

In general they want some versatile offensive skill position players that allow creative play design.

Players that have have RB/WR skills and can block in open space.

Hurd 6-5, 228, 23 bench reps, plays faster than his 4.64 forty and rare change of direction skills for his size.

Pollard 6-0, 4.38 forty, 18 bench press reps.

The Tavon Austin (5-8, 174, 4.28 forty) type offensive weapon players are too small for many roles that Pollard and Hurd can play.

Pollard projects as a possible true RB much more than Hurd.

Both project well as WRs but for different reasons.
- Pollard has they dynamic Tavon Austin explosive athletic ability but in a 6-0, 210+ body.
- Hurd is a mega-sized WR in the modern era where the average size of starting WRs seems to be increasing every year.

The Rams integrated blocking by their WRs into their overall blocking scheme on a level beyond other NFL teams.
- Memphis did that with Pollard both as a WR and a 2nd RB on the field.

Im hoping we can do some really effective running out slot packages this year. If teams are really afraid of our ability to run the ball in 3 and 4 WR sets, then those subpackages are going to be extremely hard to defend.

Liked both players coming out. Was really surprised Hurd taken a little higher than I expected. I remember listening to the Draft coverage when Hurd went off the board and Norm (or someone else) mentioning the Cowboys really liked Hurd.

Was happy we nabbed Pollard in the 4th.

You can’t have them all.

The Rams used 3 WR, 1 TE sets on almost all snaps in 2018.

When they did play 2 TEs, their 2nd TE looks like a big WR (6-3, 239).

I prefer running from 3 WR sets (11 personnel).
- There is more space around the line with 1 less defender and 1 less blocker in that area.
- All passing plays are still an option for the defense to consider.

I am sure they were looking at both to be used in a similar fashion.

You know, the next Lance Dunbar.

Sounds like we check it down too much. I wonder what percentage of these plays go for more than 4 yards?

But Lance Dunbar never had the ability to be an effective blocker in slot packages. With Dunbar there was only so much you could do with him in the game

I could see Hurd being the target in the 3rd. Where I could Hurd going where he did, is teams projecting him as a player capable of playing outside and inside as a WR. When we looked at these two, I dont think we were looking for that ability, which is probably Hurd went higher than we wanted to take.
