So what's my point? I'm sure its obvious to many. Dak may sign a contract that makes him top 3 highest paid but with guys like Goff, Mariota, Winston, Mayfield, Allen, Darnold, etc. coming up in the next couple of years? That deal won't even be top 10 especially if you factor in the veterans who will need new deal coming up.

You hit the nail on the head. Every single season, some QB signs "the biggest deal ever!!!". It is a never ending cycle. If Dak got $35mill per year this season, that will be surpassed in the new season or two. People don't actually step away from the ledge and realize the cap is going up every single year so the percentage they count against the cap will continue to decline over the life of the contract.

I have no idea why fans of a sport get bent out of shape over a grown man's finances. Who cares. Watch the games for the entertainment they are. If salaries could be hidden, it would make sports much better. Salary cap and contract discussion is the worst.

I'm not arguing against Carr getting the deal he got. I understand why he got it. It was based on potential. But we can all sit here that there was never a point where Carr was the best quarterback in the league. And that's what he was paid as. But my point was the deal he signed even him falling off as bad as he has doesn't look nearly as bad. He's getting paid about what the average franchise qb is getting. And that deal hasn't proven to be back breaking. Raiders suck yeah but its not because of his deal.

What I’m saying is the perception of Carr was higher than the perception of Dak is now. Whether that is colorectal is the subject of legitimate debate.

You can’t pay guys who are middle of the pack guys as the highest paid at their position if you want to remain competitive.
Why do fans always rant about players salaries. But never question about what the owners make. Jerry Jones purchashed a 250mil yacht. Everyone just said wow. Dak ask for 40mil everyone loses their minds including the team he plays for...smh

You don’t understand the salary cap, do you young feller?

Maybe because there is this thing called a salary cap, maybe you have heard of it?

If you give Dak $35 or $40 or whatever the hell he is asking for, that means there is less for everybody else. You then have to pay Zeke, who wants to be the highest paid RB in the league, then you have to pay Cooper who is probably going to want to be the highest paid WR in the league, then you got Byron Jones coming up, Jaylon Smith coming up, Vander Esch coming up, and on and on.

As Stephen Jones said, everybody cant max out their deals. If you want to make Dak the highest paid QB, Zeke the highest paid RB, Cooper the highest paid WR, then you can wave bye bye to players like Jaylon Smith, Byron Jones, Vander Esch, and a lot of others. That is why everybody cares what Dak gets paid but dont give a dam about Jerry's boat.

Don't believe that rhetoric that the Joneses and the media are spewing out. Salaries increase every season. Even if the cap goes up 10mil a year for the duration of Dak's, Zeke and Cooper's contracts the team can afford to pay them. the NFL has so much revenue coming in the future it's ridicolous. Between streaming channels like Amazon and Hulu. Leagalized gambling and Fantasy Football. And with the leagalized weed don't think you can't go to a weed place and pick up your favorite teams weed.Dak's contract will be peanuts 2 years from now .

Alright so let me spell it out a little simpler. Basically I'm saying paying 32 million now isn't going to look like 32 million in 2 or 3 years when guys are making 40+ million.
Ok, well in 2 or 3 years let's pay a qb 40 million if he's worth it. Simply put, one who is impotent without either an elite RB or a #1 receiver isn't worth 25 much less 32! Dak can't even break 4000 yards passing and 30 TDs but he wants to be paid like Rodgers and Brees!

What Derek Carr did two seasons ago is irrelevant. Wentz and Wilson already signed QB contracts this season so the market right now is clear without being muddied by two years ago. If Dak wants the biggest contract in the league he needs to play through his 2m year and the a franchise tag, maybe even 2. Then he has that sort of leverage, otherwise it should be a team friendly deal.

Of course the perception of Carr was higher. He didn't have idiots in his fan base or on TV everyday making up **** about him to make him seem like he was couldn't put on his helmet the right way without "elite" talent...

You have morons that time after time after being shown evidence (for example, Dak's deep ball accuracy - amongst many) WILLFULLY ignores facts to post their same disproven "hot-takes" over and over again.

So yeah, I am sure Carr's was higher.

I would not mind Dak signing a deal like Jimmy G’s deal that includes inflation. From what I have read and heard on local sports talk radio out here in the Bay Area is that Jimmy G’s deal is basically a yearly deal that the Niners can get out of without much cap implications if he is cut. I’ll take that deal for Dak but I highly doubt he would do it.

Jimmy G's contract was unique in that the 9ers had a huge amount of cap space and front loaded the guarantee, instead of spreading it out like most teams have to do. His 2018 cap hit was just over $37 million and pocketed almost $42 million last year! He had, easily, the highest cap hit in 2018, about $11 million more than the next closest player. Very few teams have that much space to take that kind of immediate cap hit and have to spread that guaranteed money over more years. The 9ers have him relatively "cheap" going forward, but they paid him almost $12.5 million.game last year.

Dak, or any other player, would love to have their contract structured like that, take most of their money up front in the first year rather than have to wait 2-4yrs for the bulk of the guaranteed money.

Team friendly deal? Dak Prescott was the 77th highest paid QB last year...not 27th or 37th or even 57th...77th.

*** with your team friendly deal.

Pay Dak more than he is worth? Absolutely not. But if there is ONE QB (besides Russel Wilson who was also severely underpaid) who NEEDS to take Market Rate it is one Dak Prescott.

I agree...……….Wentz set that market at $32 million and Dak has better numbers across the board than Wentz, so hard to justify not paying $32.

So I would say $32-$34 should be the range Dak signs for...……….like it or not, that is market value for a starting NFL QB.

.............Derek Carr was signed a five-year, $125 million contract extension with $70 million in total guarantees which made him the highest paid player in the NFL.

Did Derek Carr's agent come to the table and say his client was the best quarterback in the league and deserved to be the highest paid player in the league? Of course not. But they knew the power of inflation. They knew that the higher the salary cap got the higher the salary of quarterbacks would get.

So where do you think that contract ranks just 2 years later?

1. Seahawks QB Russell Wilson: $35 million
2. Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger: $34 million
3. Packers QB Aaron Rodgers: $33.5 million
4. Eagles QB Carson Wentz: $32 million
5. Falcons QB Matt Ryan: $30 million
6. Vikings QB Kirk Cousins: $28 million
7. 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo: $27.5 million
8. Lions QB Matthew Stafford: $27 millio
9. Raiders QB Derek Carr: $25 million

So in just TWO YEARS........Derek Carr went from being the highest paid quarterback in the league to #9. And actually with the Tom Brady extension he may actually be #10 if I'm not mistaken.

First and foremost I consider Carr with a bigger upside to franchise road than Dak. Now just because the Raiders overpaid does that translate into us overpaying?
And please don't compare this to Zeke as he is the BEST HB in football and pretty much all of our offense!

I don't think it's being a Dak troll. It's simply Dak is not worth it. I would rather draft a QB than sign him to a $35 million a year contract. Now I hope Dak proves himself this year and proves me wrong. I hope he proves to be a top 10 QB in the NFL. If he proves it then yes sign him to whatever the heck he wants.

Perfect example of not getting it. Its not about worth. Thats just what QB's get paid. None are worth it.

Dak trolls are actually those who think he's worth starting QB $$ to begin with...he isn't even Cam Newton caliber, let alone Aaron Rodgers.

Those of us who actually "get it" understand that hamstringing to a mediocre talent at a critical position isn't getting us back to the SB anytime soon. Best to let him go and test the market. I'd rather pull Tony Romo out of retirement for a year than get stuck with a bum for the next 5-6 years.

Hes not a mediocre talent. LOL

More pathetic analysis from a troll that doesnt understand the game.

So what your saying is that because the front office of other teams screw up and don't know what they are doing, our front office should do and act the same way. I wonder if the Raiders think they got a good bargain now with Carr at 25m or the Vikes think they got a good deal with Cousins at 28m. Cowboys won't make that mistake with Dak, they will probably overpay him (because lets face facts it really doesn't take much to do that!!) but not a chance they make him the highest paid QB in the NFL

My point was the argument you guys keep making is "He's not the best quarterback in the league so he shouldn't be paid like one"is flawed. His contract will be outside of the top 10 in 2 to 3 years. But you guys live in the now and don't see the future of things so continue to panic and pray and hope Dak gets hurt so he doesn't get paid I guess.......
