I think he will bow out as Kiffin did to make way for Chris Richard...........or they may just give it to Richards anyway and shuffle the titles.

Agree.

But it should have happened after the Rams disaster.

Giving Richard the title of Passing Game Coordinator doesnt fix the problem with our scheme.

It's pretty clear that Marinelli is NOT a good personnel guy. But he's no different than any other coordinator. If he has dominant players he coaches a dominant unit. Richard is the perfect example. He was made a scapegoat for the fact that Seattle dismantled the most dominant defense in the league. He didn't just forget how to coach up a defense. Same is true for Marinelli.

The old man can still coach up a unit. Just keep him out of the talent acquisition phase.

Can he really coach up a unit anymore?

This pass rush should be better than it is. They keep changing the parts and the team just always ends up middle of the pack in getting after the QB.

That’s coaching, at least partly.

Y’all wanna give our defense a few weeks to sync up geesh. We did just face one of top 3 rbs in league and a qb/offense designed for quick throws and screens.

If Richard is calling all the plays, then why is his play sheet the size of my smart phone?

Dont call people names.

It makes you look more stupid than you already are.
Hilarious coming from you.

And since you're (obviously) terminally stupid, I'll reference you to this post earlier in the thread:
This is in a Bob Sturm article on The Athletic, I can't link it because its behind a pay wall -

Adding to that was Kris Richard being acquired from Seattle to basically coordinate the defense. (The Cowboys still list Rod Marinelli as the defensive coordinator despite all parties admitting that Richard now calls the defense and seems to do most of the actual coordinating while Marinelli seems to handle coaching the defensive line as a smaller group. For this reason – fair or unfair, we are changing the name of this series to the “Richard Report”).

Run along, now, sport.

Partly, sure. On thing is certain, though. There is a hustle on this defense on all levels (especially on the D-line) that was absent from this team for decades before he showed up.

To be fair, I don't see a Warren Sapp, John Lynch, or Barber on this roster, either. We've acquired some talent on D to be sure but I'm not sure (outside of LVE and maybe Jaylon) that we truly have any "dominant" players on that side of the ball. Above average? Certainly, but we might get one guy out of this group that will eventually be heading to Canton.

You're point is well taken, though.

This is an uncommon argument that Marinelli supporters use to cover the problems with the defense.

Poor Marinelli...you cant blame him. Richard is calling all the plays.

If only Marinelli was calling the plays. This wouldn't happen.

You obviously do not work in an environment with a chain of command.

Right "Sport?"

Yeah, sometimes you have to put the old dog down. As painful as that might be. I'm seeing nothing from Methuselah's "Rushmen" and the same issues of being unsound versus the run that cost us last year. The game passes everyone by eventually, and I think our 'defensive coordinator' in name only has had his day.

Time to go.

Marinelli hasn’t called the plays since 2017

Yours and my own opinions of "decent pressure" differ greatly here.
I would have liked to see more, but that's as much as you get with 4 man against 6 man protection. Giants chose to protect and cowboys chose to drop more into coverage. when we did attack with Smith and LVe we had some success. my gripe wasn't the passing defense. they kept them in front all day. the rushing defense was no so good, given Barkley only rushed 11 times. but then again its barkley. I think the Giants OL is greatly improved, but they just don't have the WRs.

Are we really looking for things to complain about on a day where we beat a Division rival by 18 points?

Not overlooking issues, despite the win. Just like fans want to pull out the "positives" from a loss, I'm discussing the issues following a win. Same standards. I'm concerned that they gave up over 500 yards of offense to the Giants today.

Agreed, Stash.

This "rushmen" mentality, especially on non passing downs is getting Dallas killed.

When they know it's a passing situation I'm all for it but to push upfield on run downs is ridiculous.

Half the time I don't think the DT's know where the ball is.

Crawford sure didn't when Barkley took off for 60!

It's unclear to me that Marinelli should be getting all, or even most of the blame here. Richard calls the defensive plays.

But just by eyeball today, I didn't like the dline, and particularly the DTs.

I don't expect Rod leaving or getting fired. I think he likely will retire after this season as he is on last year of his contract

Crawford is just coming back from surgery. Lawrence too. They should get better.

Although I wasn't onboard with extending Lawrence, and kept hoping we could move on from Crawford this year "a year early". It may turn out it was a year late, but I'm not giving up on him for this year yet. Let them play in to shape and see what happens.

Yeah, you keep holding out that hope for your boy Crawford. I'm not fooled. Certainly not the way he is.
