The lesson here, as always, is that you don't listen to Marinelli when it comes to personnel. Just seems like every time you here whispers that Rod doesn't think a guy is a fit (Watt), or he's wild about someone's length (Taco), demeanor (Hill), Hot Rod really has no idea. Just coach, leave the drafting to the personnel dept.

Exactly!

Send him on vacation on draft weekend!

Any offer they got they should have taken. What could possibly be the hold up?

Not really. May have been another bottom of the roster guy, who we ultimately are gonna cut. If it was a conditional 2020 7th round pick, sure why not. But for a player we're gonna cut before his plane lands, I'll pass.

The #Cowboys are still keeping the door open for a possible trade of former first-round pass-rusher Taco Charlton, but if nothing comes to fruition, they plan to move on from him, sources tell
@SlaterNFL
and me. With Robert Quinn back on the roster, Taco is likely out.

Just got an update from BR that the team is moving on from Taco regardless of trades or not.. why would they tip their hand like this and also why not let him play out the year if not traded?

all a player has to do now is rock the boat demand out and they allow it? the NFL is in that zone right now and its setting bad precedent IMO

Who do you go with?

I would just move Gifford to IR, but I would have done that from the beginning.

I would not cut Taco yet.

I would not cut the OLineman Redmond either.

The OL Knight had an injury issue in camp. If that is bothering him at all, then I would move him to IR.

That way, you don't really lose assets. Get someone from waiver wire for PSQ.

Quinn's roster exemption ends tomorrow, so someone is getting cut (or traded or put on IR).

Any predictions?

I mean any realistic ones (Taco ain't getting cut).

Looks like Taco is getting cut. What a wasted pick! But over all the Cowboys have drafted really well the last few years.

Probably neither one.

The coaches really like Armstrong.

Taco's contract is guaranteed for this season and next.

I understand why you believe/believed Taco would not be cut, but I think people are underestimating what a problem Taco is behind the scenes. It’s pretty evident that when the team starts hinting that they have soured on a player it’s usually the beginning of the end.

The team has never hinted at that with Gregory in spite of his failures. They have with Taco. You could see the tea leaves with Bease and they let him walk.

I think that’s the major issue with Taco. He was improving a little and would indicate he might get more time to develop. But it looks like that won’t be the case.

I am not happy that I was right about this pick. But in the spirit of full disclosure I could see him being a decent player on down the road if he gets his head on straight, although once a head case, always a head case.

You can only take so many bites from a crap sandwich. Wasted pick, yep, but better than wasting more time on someone knowing they have no future with the organization.

Actually when I said that I had in mind that his 2020 salary was guaranteed.

Looking it up, it appears that only 2019 is guaranteed and 1.4M is his salary for 2019 of which 3/17ths has already been paid.

Also, even with a guaranteed salary, there may be an offset if he signs with another team which would reduce it by about 500K.

I thought some team would take him for a conditional 7th which would get his remaining salary for the season off the Cowboys books.

Something is odd is no team offered a conditional 7th. A conditional pick makes it a free look at the player. His agent must have something to do with this issue similar to when La'el's agent told teams not to draft him.

I wonder if Taco told the team he was playing hard in the preseason to draw league interest in a trade.
Something just doesn't quite add up with his situation, does it? But, for argument's sake...
He balled out because:
1. Prior to camp, he wanted to be traded and needed to draw trade interest.
2. During camp, he thought he could earn a starting spot. Didn't get it, so now he wants a trade.

In August, didn't he say his agent has him thinking about his future?
