I was for the pick at the time...and argued with some about him.
6'6...played his best in the biggest games.
boy was I wrong.
I couldn't have gotten a pick wronger.

The sad part is he has physical talent, who knew he wouldn't be willing to put in the effort needed to get better.

Why do so many think every player is going to go somewhere else and be a star? If we play a team this year and Taco is starting at DE for them, is anyone going to be scared that Smith and Collins can’t block him? I would say run to that side all day long.

why would they give us anything knowing for a fact we are going to release him

Plus they would assume 3 Million in salary for a guy that wouldn't be getting cut unless he had become a head case. He has either had a dramatic change in attitude, joined a cult or he has bodies buried in his back yard. Its not about ability.

This is sad. If you give up on a healthy 1st round pick. Something was really wrong. Good luck Taco wherever you go or what you do next in life.

Disappointed, but first round busts happen for all teams.
Yes, it happens. Dallas has done exceptionally well with their drafting process and evaluations over the last few years. There has been a massive improvement over the last 7-8 years and it is hard to deny the impact that good drafting has had on the team. There will always be busts, but Dallas has done great at keeping those to a minimum.

So who gets number 97 now?

Robert Quinn, Trysten Hill, or Joe Jackson?

If Adam Redmond and Brandon Knight are still on the roster and Taco is gone, this is purely about Taco cutting himself from the team.

The Cowboys like both players and Joe Looney and Xavier Su'a Filo are free agents next year.

How did Aikman push for David LaFleur over Tony Gonzalez when Gonzalez was selected nine spots ahead of where the Cowboys selected? Seems like the choice of the two wasn't actually a choice at all.
You can never gage when a player gets picked, but supposedly it was a debate that Aikman won.

I think it is easy to blame the FO for this (and they certainly deserve the lionshare of it) but the pick was doomed. We wanted Takk McKinley and got scooped. We drafted for need and got burned (as you often do in drafting for need).

The TJ Watt comparisons aren't entirely unfair though it is questionable whether he would have succeeded here.

I don't think this qualifies as "biggest bust" ever though. Some folks don't seem to remember some of the Jerry drafts of old. I've seen Shante Carver mentioned here. Same with David Lafleur and Ebenezer Ekuban (who we traded up for!) and obviously Bobby Carpenter.
