I find these basic schemes insulting

The approach was the 90's cowboys approach. Larry Allen used to make a choo choo noise at the LOS. It didn't matter if the opposing defense knew what was coming. They couldn't stop it. But, Jimmy Johnson's strengths as a coach are where JG falls down. He's no leader of men. He has no motivational skills and he's certainly not coaching anyone up. JG is the players buddy.

So, It is not so much our style of play as the lethargic and lazy way the players go about it. .......and there is no accountability anywhere in the organization. Those 2 things are related.

Fans debating the coaching scheme of a team is more or less futile because we really don't know what is said or done. What we see on the field oftentimes looks like a complete lack of preparation, and as fans, we begin to make our own assumptions. Also, we all know Jimmy Johnson was a great coach, but it isn't really fair to compare Garrett to him. I encourage all of you to read "Boys Will Be Boys" by Jeff Pearlman. You want to know what was going on in that locker room? That will give many a different perspective. Also, the game was different in the 90s. I am not a fan of Garrett by any stretch of the imagination, but I stand by my belief that the only CONSTANT in the Cowboys organization is Jerry Jones. I believe he is the fundamental problem.

Given that, your statement about accountability is spot on. There is none, starting with the GM.

Elliott needs to run pissed.
Agreed. After last week when he had a blocker on (I think) a toss or outside run and cut inside instead of outside I would say he should have a chip on his shoulder. That was a game winning run if he makes the correct cut.

This coaching staff intentionally runs basic and easy schemes that even the opposing team can figure out what they are doing.

Sam darnold said it best when he said the cowboys “play like they always do” and that he knew what he had to do to win.

It’s been on record that this coaching a staff believes that hustling and winning 1 on 1 matchups is key to how the cowboys play/win football games.

My question is why? Are the players on the team not smart enough and have to play in a scheme where everything is “in front” of them and rely on athleticism?

Are the coaches using these basic schemes because they are not smart enough and don’t know any other way to play football?

Lazy or incompetent? Take your pick.

Everything in life is a trade off that sounds good on a powerpoint slide.

"We make our system simpler, therefore easier for our guys to perfect their play."

Sounds good. Might actually work.

But the trade off is that your simpler scheme makes it easier for your opponents to play against you.

What we *observe empirically* is that the "perfection of play in the simpler scheme" just isn't beating greater scheme complexity.

Yeah I pretty much took Princeton off of the university list for my kids. I did not want them to graduate and then give a dead stare look back to their boss when they have no clue.

Or don't have them major in History or English if you want them to be in a job that requires analytical thinking...

I’m not cracking on Zeke. He runs with power and heart and often makes 3-4 yards out of nothing. He reads the zone blocking very well most of the time. He blocks like a FB and is a decent receiver.

But....we do spring him into the secondary a few times every game. Sometimes when that happens, I do long for the days watching EMMITT cut, juke, spin and make guys miss on his way to long TD runs.....and speed was never his thing either.

The early 90s team also had another thing that this team lacks: actual superior talent.
.....throw in Money Divas. 90's team was about playing as a team. Now that the CAP emerged, Dallas teams now function as individuals playing ball. Big difference.

It was required on offense when Dez and TWilliams were the starting WRs.

They should be able to run a more complex offensive scheme now; although, maybe not when both OTs are out of the game.

The run blocking scheme is a mess. When OL coach Bill Callahan was here (2012-2014) they were at their best.

On defense they've tried to change things up this year but it has made it worse, not better.

Much like the blocking scheme on offense, they just don't seem to have a scheme answer for defending zone runs, especially zone runs that start outside and then cut back inside.

Emmitt made that line outside of Larry Allen and prime Erik Williams. Those 2 dominated.

Jimmy was ahead of the curve.

They got 300 plus pound OLinemen when most teams didn't have them.

When Erik Williams because the starting RT, that allowed Nate to move to OG.

Tuinei was a really solid LT and Step was great technician at OC.

Erik Williams intimidated entire defenses, especially the front 7.

Erik Williams set the tone for the entire team. His own teammates were scared of him, especially on game days.

They won 2 Super Bowls before they drafted Larry Allen.

If Coop cant go, maybe it forces Moore to actually open up his Boise book of utilizing all hands on deck.
I love what Ive seen from Gallup, but he will need an actual game script that includes Pollard to keep the eagles defense honest.
I want Moore to succeed, and if he does so will the offense.
Well don’t expect much this week, after bye will be more time. It’s not that easy to just throw in new packages for specific players on the fly in 5 days. But they should be using these guys in lieu of others more. Jarwin can make big plays...he’s a legit second level threat at TE. Shultz is proven to be solid underneath...Pollard is Pollard and no idea what in the hell they are thinking not giving him more touches. Asking myself that seems every game.
Bizarre but this is Dallas and they like to use the famous “steps forward by going sideways:” method. One step forward.and a stupid decision to counter that gain.

Its all they got. They have nothing else to put out there, but what they know. Which is old and used up.

Both sides of the ball are badly coached. Marinelli is garbage. His DT nonsense is horrid. Any team in the NFL that is good at stopping the run has at least one stud DT. All we do is sign journeyman scrubs. What do they expect?

I don't care what was going on in the locker room and i've read the book. What I care about is what happens on the field.

I am not making any assumptions. How many times do you have to hear Garret drone on in press conferences about "execution" and see him refuse to make in-game adjustments (chaz green) before you just take him at his word? He's even stated that he doesn't believe in the idea of making adjustments b/c he "trusts" his preparation. Its mind boggling. Jerry enables him by continuing to employ him. There is no question Jerry is the root of all thats ailed this team the past 24 years. Its what he wanted. He wanted to make all the big decisions and do the "socks to jocks" thing in order to receive maximum credit and fan adoration. Might have worked out for him had he any talent for the job.
