DL not taken in the first 15 picks arent often year 1 studs.
Hill is 21 years old. lol.
He will absolutely get stronger.
That's not even a question.

The question is when he does will he still be explosive.

Not many teams have good depth right now midway through the season after injuries have taken a toll on rosters.

Trading for a solid run stuffing back up off a tanking type team makes a lot of sense.

On that play both DTs were lined up as 3-techs.

That is a pass defense formation.

That formation will give up some yards if it is a run play.

This is a blatantly wrong assessment. The 2 inside tackles are playing 3 and 1 technique as seen in the clip.

A 12 strong left formation doesn’t exactly scream pass either.

Hill probably needs another season (maybe 2 more, hopefully not)

thems the breaks when you don't have a 1st Rd pick (Amari was worth it though)

Perhaps Hill will never be good. The Cowboys reached for him. He barely played in college. Guy is a workout warrior that can’t play. Rod Marinelli needs to pay the price for some of these DL picks. They absolutely needed a S instead.

they need to keep marnelli out of the draft room

I am starting to believe Marinelli was a decent DL coach who reputation was buoyed by having a core group of great players in Tampa. As a head coach his record was awful. As a DC in Chicago and Dallas his record is ok. Not great by any stretch. Now the guy appears to be clearly losing it. He needs to be gone. Whole staff needs to go but especially him.

Moore I need to see more. Early returns are good.

The give him time crowd disagrees.

So many guys in this league have made a lot of money being workout warriors only to show they absolutely can’t play the game.

I haven’t seen Hill much but the little I have gives me zero confidence there is something there. Sure the guy has some twitch to him but for a 300 pounder he gets tossed around. Has terrible balance and technique. I will predict the guy is a bust. Like Escobar bad.

Guy can’t play at all.

I've watched that play over a dozen times and most everyone did OK. Except for Joe Jackson.

At first, I thought that the LBs were out of position, but they were in gap control. Smith COMMITTED to his gap by taking on the blocker that came off of Hill. LVE covered his gap, but stayed free to run to the ball.
The FS was providing deep coverage, so I didn't really expect him to charge in hard. If he does charge in with any consistency, the flea-flicker becomes a thing.
Both DTs were doubled and pushed around, but each occupied TWO OL and each clogged up one gap.
The last OL was on Hyder, so the ONLY DL that was NOT blocked by an OL was Jackson.
But Jackson was completely taken out of his gap and ridden out of the play by a TE. Fortunately, Sean Lee cleaned up Jackson's mess there.

It does look like Hill ended up on the ground, but this single clip isn't really clear about that. One of his draft weaknesses was that he is on the ground a lot.

Not enough here to say that Hill is a bust. He's definitely raw though.

Mainly, I'm disappointed in Jackson. The Draft Network said THIS about him: "Run Defense - Sets a firm edge, plays with extension and maintains outside leverage. Could stand to be more deliberate about squeezing down the b-gap. Dominates tight ends attempting to turn him out."
That simply did NOT happen.

WalterFootball said THIS and it seems to be more true, at least on this play:

"Jackson needs work in the ground game. He flashes the ability to hold his ground and stand up blocks, but there are too many plays on which he gets pushed out of his gap or knocked around. In run defense, Jackson is better when he works upfield and uses his speed to cause disruption in the backfield. He needs to get stronger in his lower body to hold his ground at the point of attack. With more development, Jackson has the potential to be a balanced defender who is a solid contributor against the run."

Conner Williams wasn't strong enough last year. He returned this year much stronger. Should be the same for hill.

Connor Williams has also been barely adequate this year. He’s been better than last year but he’s far from being a really good OG.

I'd say more like lower 1st into 2nd, yes

Jaylon Smith is a good example

I can understand drafting a guy like Jaylon who was nfl ready but had an injury. It's guys that aren't nfl ready who I feel shouldn't be drafted in the 1st or 2nd round.

I've heard rumors that a few NFL teams had 6th round grades on Hill and at least one team took him off their board.

I think we were trying to be clever. Too early to tell for sure, but not looking good at all so far.

Made up story.

we can't just throw hill to the side..he's a young pup. He needsgame reps and the weight room. We DO need to look into a vet fatty for DT.

One of my issues with Hill is that the man who vouched for him is more than likely gone after this season. If Marinelli is gone after this season how will Hill respond to no longer having his biggest advocate on the staff here coaching him up? Remember he didn't respond too well to the coaching change in college.
You hope that he has grown up and realizes he's a professional now.

Well, if that is a pass defense formation, then I would expect the DL to be rushing the passer. Only Hyder was upfield. The other 3 DL (Jackson, Hill, and Woods) were not even trying to rush the passer, none were shooting any gaps. They looked to be reacting to the OL run blocking and getting blown off the LOS with double teams.

Like I said, I have no idea what the front 7 Cowboys were supposed to do on that play. At least bring a LB up to fake a blitz and then back off or something. Make the QB and OL think. Now I don't know what the score was or the down and distance was for that play. It could be some sort of prevent if the Cowboys were up big.
