I meant as a Cowboys fan, how will he affect the locker room? Will he play well? Will he fix at least some of our problems on defense? Will he obey our rules as a team?
...yep, those are the questions soon to be found out. My gut says he will do well at first. Depending how the season progresses. Winning fixes lots of things.

You don’t have to be young to say something you may or may not regret....how old was the Texans owner when he compared a league where the majority of the players are black to inmates? Humans don’t stop making mistakes in their 20s.

That's what I was pointing out to the people who were blaming youth.

This is just who these guys are.

And that's what a 3-tech is supposed to be in this scheme. Too bad he doesn't have the size to be an everydown player at that position because that's what we really need. The closest we had to it since we started using this scheme was David Irving.

I'm interested in seeing how much Bennett gets used at 3-tech. I can't see us using him there much as a pure run defender, but I would think we'd use him there on 2nd-and-7 or longer, 3rd-and-5 or longer. Of course, I'm not sure he can be worse against the run on 1st-and-10, 2nd-and-5 than what we've put out there even if he doesn't really have the size for it.

Oh...Well that's simple...If he doesn't then treat him like you would a 7th round pick.

He was stuck playing behind Witten. He knew he would never get a chance because Witten would never come off the field.

They couldn't use Irving there as a run stopper either. Those are actually a good comparison.

I never blame a young player for wanting to play more. I'd be more concerned if they were content being a backup player. I've always believed the Cowboys were foolish for wasting three second round picks on tightends in 2006, 2008, and 2013. Fasano and Bennett had respectable careers after leaving the Cowboys; Escobar, not so much. But can you imagine how unhappy Travis Kelce would have been playing behind Witten in Dallas, if they'd picked him instead of Escobar in 2013?

Bennett was a talented Tight End. It's understandable that he was unhappy with the opportunities he got in Dallas. But Dallas Cowboys fans can hardly complain about having a Hall-of-Fame bound tightend keeping the 1st string job. In my understanding, this is why "best available" player is not always a good draft strategy. When you are already loaded at a position, it is wasteful to spend high picks on the same position. I was much, much happier when the Cowboys drafted John Phillips in 2009, Geoff Swaim in 2015, and Rico Gathers in 2016. Phillips had a 10 year NFL career, Swaim is in his 5th season, and Gathers lasted 3 seasons. Those were 6th and 7th round picks, which is a good use for career backup players.

Exactly. Given the benefit of hindsight, and wisdom that comes with age and experience, he can now admit his part in why things didn't work out. It's also refreshing to hear honesty about him not wanting to play for Jason.

I really appreciate honesty. It's too often in short supply
This matches up with what guys like Orlando Scandrick said recently and what Dez has said in the past.
