And they crucified Eli for not wanting to play for them. If they were to make this move, he would be the first, in a long line of draft picks, to have waved the dirty bird at them during draft night.

Their move to LA was among the most hair brained in history. I think memphis would have been a more supportive landing spot.

The tv money is in Los Angeles.

Jerry played a huge part in this.

They should have just ponied up with the uber billions this league has and built a nice mid sized fan friendly stadium in san diego for the chargers. The fans would have been excited and the players would not have to have this type of unknown.

They have no fans in LA and "tv money" is split equally amongst all 32 teams. Their home games are typically half full with half the stadium packed with the other teams fans.

yes but having more teams in LA means more eyes in LA. This allows them to get more when they negotiate the tv deals.

Kirk Morrison was on sports radio saying there is a lot ramifications of having a team in London like taxes, health insurance that is over there is different than here, etc.

Here in L.A., a few of the local talk show hosts have referred to the Chargers as " a team without a city". The questions: Will the organization make a profit in the long run? What is the Spanos family end game? Another problem: visiting teams will pack 40-50% of the seats at Chargers game. Not good.

That's an increased travel expense I doubt the owners would sign off on......that's just one of the negatives.

I absolutely hate any game being played overseas unless it is in preseason. I think the best plan to go to a different Country would obviously to either Canada and/or Mexico. NFL needs to stay in North America.

Given that an increasing percentage of NFL revenue comes from the International market, it is is inevitable that there will be teams outside the US in the near future.

The Jags interest in moving to London is well known - their owner is based there and owns a soccer team. The logistics work better with 2 teams in Europe. I'm surprised that the Chargers are being named as a possible London team - it may be a mistaken assumption by journalists. Maybe they are the other European team.

Some random thoughts:

1. The mainland European team will have a much bigger market. As successful as London is, the football market in Germany is multiples bigger.

2. London games are more than twice over subscribed for tickets, so 6-8 games will sell out. A London team will likely play c.2 games per year at other UK or west European venues.

3. I dont think the NFL will move a team to London until the Brexit crisis is resolved. UK is too uncertain from a ecomonic and civil order perspective going forward.

4. I believe the NFL has looked at strategic training bases in Europe with a view to having a permanent training facility - outside UK, but convenient to UK and Western Europe that all travelling teams can use for their few days in Europe. (Hint - there is a country in Europe that has US customs and immigration officials based in its airports which makes everything easier from that perspective. As a consequence, this country is the only European country that can take flights in/out of local airports in the US which helps with team charters.)

I thought they were locked into a 20 year stadium lease in the new L.A home They'll share with the Rams.
The vehemence of the Chargers owner (He used the F word twice and the BS word once) tells Me it's dirty tricks from the Rams attempting to undermine the Chargers efforts to build a fan base in L.A and Spanos knows it.

LA is actually a terrible NFL market. Go look at the ratings. LA ranks in the bottom 5 most every week in NFL tv ratings even with 2 teams. Chargers are flat out bombing. Huge mistake by the NFL and very predictable. They will have to move or be forced to sell. Its unclear how long the other 31 NFL want to financially carry Spanos.

Moving to London is absurd. London has extremely low NFL tv ratings. Far worse than LA. The NFL won't even make a dent and will only confuse folks calling it football. Most of the people at the London NFL games are ex-pats and folks just curious about all the ballyhoo.
