Either way, they’re 8-0 so they’re doing something right. They’ve had injured players this year too and their coach still has prepared around those injures. That sounds like good coaching to me. Or maybe I’m just used to Garrett’s mediocrity that I forgot what a real coach was like...

Take away JJ and the Tuna and we have not had real coaches since.

Smith had multiple hold calls.
It was two right? Pretty sure they were both bad calls. One was overwhelmingly bad.

That voch dude that does breakdowns on YouTube that people post here said he was going to break down just how poor some of the calls on Smith have
been.

Here they all are. Guess he hasn’t broken them down yet.

Ummm. Holding calls at the worst possible times, dumb PI calls. Undisciplined penalties for being baited by other teams players.
The Cowboys will be taken advantage of by the Vikings if they continue their 2nd most penalized team play. The margin for error in this game will be slim.

Kicking isn't gonna stop us making the play offs. Maher is 100% with pa's and has only missed 5 fg's, 3 of which were from 50 yards plus. This theory that Maher is a liability doesn't stand up to scrutiny. Josh Lambo is the only kicker to be 100% on fg's that has kicked as many as Maher but he hasn't attempted anything longer than 48 yards and he has also missed a pa.

To add to that, the 49'ers kicker Gould already missed 7 FGs. He went 1 for 4 against Cleveland. On the season he's 0 for 3 from 50+, Maher is playing better while Gould's less than stellar season is generally overlooked because of their team's win column.

Not sure if this has already been posted or not...

The Dallas Cowboys & 49er’s are the only two teams in the NFL that have...

Top10 Scoring Offense & Total Offense
&
Top10 Scoring Defense & Total Defense

Pretty good Mid-Season Achievement.

Do you think they will be able to maintain these marks through the coming couple weeks?

The Patriots:

Offense
Scoring: 1
Yards: 10

Defense
Scoring: 1
Yards: 2

Yes their GM is serving them well. But it's hard to ignore that Kyle has turned that team around in just 3 years. They were awful the first two years he was the coach. Now they are on an upswing. Coaching matters. If it didn't why then has San Francisco turned it around in just 3 years?

Talent matters more. Do you think he got that much better as a coach or did their talent base raise? This is what the 2nd year garapolo has played? That matters, those guys on defense line are mostly top 10 picks.

2018- 9th pick
2017- 3rd pick
2016- 7th pick

Go look at what we did in 2016 draft. They had 3 straight drafts just like that picking high in each round. We had 1 year vs their 3 years. Maybe Garrett should have just thrown games in the beginning to get those high picks. Now they have talent they are winning.

Video 1a:
Yes, that will get called when they see it. Tyron kept his arm extended too long.

The DE did some acting to draw attention to it.

Video 2a: Clearly a penalty.

Nope. Both teams are entering the tough part of their schedule. Luckily, the 49ers have good coaching and consistency, but I can’t say that will be good enough to keep their stats in the top 10. Their offense isn’t really all that great IMO. Their D is amazing though.

Dallas- I have no words I haven’t said before. Jason Garrett. Inconsistent. Shooting them selves in the feet. That is all.
We have a cat now.

As they say you can call one every time. I see far worse on Quinn regularly not called. Others too.

The third one was his power taking the guy down.

They’re all debatable

On the second one: is reaching around to push/pull him by his chest not the same as pushing from the front? I haven’t seen many blocks like that, but he didn’t clip him.

I answered those out of order. iPhone is making it hard to watch rewind then reply.

You have to watch on bigger screen to really see these plays.

All 5 are types of blocks that routinely get flagged.

It's a different issue if the question is: "should all of those be against the rules?"
  • I would prefer that the rules to be more lenient with regards to OL holding.
  • What was for a long long time considered a pancake block is now considered a penalty.
  • A pancake is basically only legal if the OL punches the defender and then backs off.
  • If the OL maintains contact until the defender is on the ground, it's a penalty.

The Cowboys are nowhere near the consistency and skill sets of the 49ers.
Give it up.
Let's just hope we never have to play these monsters.
Vikings will provide a big enough test without hoping to play a team that, today, could beat the Patriots.

Coaching or Talent: Both
  • Even if he had the 2019 roster his first season as HC, they probably wouldn't have been nearly as good.
  • It generally takes time for coaching to really click with an entire team.
  • IMO, parity from the salary cap has made coaching more important than in the past.
Side Note:
  • Shanahan is a master of the Zone Blocking Scheme.
  • Zone Blocking details have been a problem for the Cowboys on both Offense and Defense in recent times.
  • The Rams Zone Blocking was the top reason the Cowboys lost the playoff game.
  • During the losing streak this season both the offense and defense had issues with regards to Zone Blocking.
  • They changed OL and DL scheme/assignments starting with the Eagles game and it has made a big difference.
  • The Niners are somewhat opposite of the Rams in that they use a FB more than other teams while the Rams never use one.

Niners:
  • It's interesting that the Niners were mentioned in this regard.
  • I've always thought that Harbaugh inherited one of the best situations a new HC can inherit.
  • They had put together a talented roster and Singletary had instilled a sense of discipline.

Yeah, I was wondering exactly what one could do on a pancake now. Some of the others still seemed very iffy compared to many I see on us and others mention at the same time in the game theeaf.

That said, I’ve clearly developed a persecution complex as a fan after the no hold streaks, illegal fake sub, false start on long snapper etc. I’ll try to watch on a bigger screen, but I’ll trust you...
