Garrett will be gone. Fans will revolt if he is re-signed. Jerry knows this

Agreed. Jerry will also lose a lot of the FA's for this 2020 season. If Garrett was resigned, If I were Dak, Amari, or any other FA coming off this team, I'd refuse to resign and go elsewhere. This team has a lot of talent and those FA could go almost anywhere they want to go. Fans will not watch or go to games (at least not to the degree they are today). I honestly think there would be a strike or revolt as well because this Garrett hoopla is the worst it's ever been...

He will get fired if they lose against the Lions
I think a loss to Detroit seals Garrett's fate.
But I think an ugly loss to Detroit could get him fired immediately afterwards.
Personally, I would like to fire him while he's still on the field, during the game, on national television, and tell him to find his own way back to Dallas.
I would prefer it were in Green Bay, on a cold night; the 2010 debacle would be avenged, and make him get his own ride home.

If a Jets loss and the close Vikings loss weren't enough, he won't be fired after this game. He was literally saved by a black cat in the Giants game.

Also, his fate is already sealed, JJ just doesn't have anyone to be a interim HC, so he is forced to keep him til the end of the season. I truly think he is waiting to contact some college HC...

This is what terrible people do. That’s not how you treat employees, even to satisfy your bloodlust.

Why would Saban leave an 8 figure salary, one of the top 3 recruiting programs in the country, they don't even talk to players not at 4 stars or above, where he is revered and the king of his own country? Texas was after him with the same contract Gruden got foe OAK and he wasn't interested.

He learned plenty from his detour into the NFL. He learned 53 players isn't as good as 80 and in the NFL they don't coach millionaires, they handle them.

Do you see Saban's AD doing interviews for what the HC usually does? Saban isn't interested in chasing anything in the NFL, he's chasing a Bama legend.

I don't think this is true. I read an article about the Saban to Texas thing. Saban was ready to accept the deal, according to the interview, but Mack put a stop to it. The deal would have had to have been that Mack step down and he wasn't going to do that so Saban stayed at Alabama and Texas ended up where they did. I don't know if that is the real truth or not but that is what I read about that deal.

Does anyone know if vegas takes bets on head coaches getting fired? I would love to actually bet a couple hundred on Garrett getting canned this offseason.

The only way Garrett gets fired is if it happens during the season. I don’t see that happening. His contract is up at the end of the season so if he’s not brought back it’s simply a parting of ways, not a firing.

Saban is interesting in terms of the NFL in general. His contract at Alabama would make it extremely tough to walk away from that job. Saban currently makes more than Jason Garrett plus I imagine there are all kinds of old Alabama wealth generated benefits that add to his contract value. I almost think Alabama will become an NFL team before Saban leaves that job to take an NFL job.

The only way Garrett isn't extended is if he's fine with leaving and trying another team for a while, the relationship could stay intact with the family. It's not him being fired or not extended but a true mutual agreement that leaves both parties fine with the other.

This gets complicated because of the personal relationships but what if Garrett is tired of coaching in THE glass house of the NFL? What if he's tired of the Joneses using their personal relationship as leverage?

I think that whole Linehan embarrassment affected Garrett. Think about how that might have been handled differently as to not embarrass your HC unlike any had been done before. Now, think about what if they'd already discussed Linehan and that led Garrett to answer the question that way and they'd neglected to tell him they'd changed their minds in one of their little discussions?

We all talk about Booger not keeping Garrett, but what if it's the other way around. And what if Garrett is pissed enough that he's already had some clandestine discussions with Snyder or Mara? Anyone think this season has been a fun one for Garrett?

You will win on a technicality. Jerry set up a situation for his own comfort, based on his feelings for Garrett, that will prevent him from firing Garrett even if the Cowboys finish 5-11.

Don’t forget that Garrett’s contract runs out at the end of the season. Jerry will never fire Jason during the season, and if he decides he has to move on, he will simply go sign another coach, deciding not to resign JG, never having to actually fire him.

Jerry is a smart man. He didn’t want to fire his boy, and he made sure he wouldn’t need to do so.

Prediction? Garrett’s success with Dak makes him the next coach of
  • Giants
  • Browns
  • Jets (3 places where he would actually be a step forward)
Or,
  • Dolphins
  • Broncos (Places that have hired former Cowboys in the past)
Final prediction — Forget the talk about college coaches. Jerry won’t want to start over with another young guy who’s never coached in the NFL or been a head coach. Plus, the first crop of hot young geniuses have done little this year, and the newest crop seem lost. Look for Jerry to try to bring in a defensive minded former head coach or defensive coordinator. Won’t surprise me if he tries to keep Moore as OC, and based on this year’s numbers, that may be an easy sell to a defensive minded coach.

I wonder ...
  • Did Nick Saban learn anything from his first NFL tenure
  • Might Saban be ready to move on from Alabama at this point

I see no one likes your post and I can see why, it seems like a self gloating know it all type of post. I really stopped reading when you said everything is setup for Jerry's comfort.. How could you possibly know how comfy Jones is at this moment or if we continue to lose and all hope is truly lost.. You do realize this is whats around the corner and in most cases already here...

It feels like to me that Vikings loss and the manner in which they lost was a real turn to the end. I think the real end will be losing at Philadelphia and not making the playoffs. That will probably seal the deal no matter what else happens.

Me personally I am hoping things go south for Carolina and Ron Rivera is available. Rivera coming here and fixing the defense and hiring someone competent to run the offense and special teams would be a huge plus.

I also wouldn't mind Matt Eberflus coming back or a small handful of other defensive coaches.

What I don't want is a young offensive coach who calls his own plays. that is a recipe for disaster here.
I would like matt eberflus as the head coach

No he won’t!

Naw, he has the entire season but nothing is obviously guaranteed beyond that. Now if Garrett signs an extension Sunday after losing to the Lions, I think 99% of us would revolt. LOL.

The only coach above Saban's earnings in all of football is Belichick. And that's questionable with all of the perks in Saban's job.

Have you ever seen that coaches box in Tuscaloosa? He has more coaches than any team in any area of football. First time I saw it, I thought it was some large men's choir. There were over 20 of them in that box and that's just the box. Bama spends whatever he wants on whatever he wants. And he picks all of his coaches, he doesn't allow someone else, who knows so little, to do that.

Saban is smart, he was trained by Belichick and understands the "process" and do you think he would regard Booger and Idiot Boy Child as football smart? He's also from the D side and they're allocating too much to the O side. Some coaches still think D wins championships.

Do people really think it makes a difference? An interm coach isn't getting us further than we have been. Kinda don't care when he goes as long as he goes.

The only scenario I could see Garrett getting fired is it the team continues to lose and gets steamrolled by the Patriots. If the team appears to quit on Garrett similar to what happened to Wade during the 2010 season then Jerry might pull the plug on him. It would take a complete debacle the next few weeks for Jerry to fire him during the season. Barring a complete collapse the final 7 games, Jerry will just ride out the rest of the season and move on from Garrett if the Cowboys miss the playoffs.
