Garrett will not be fired. Bet your house on it

You will win on a technicality. Jerry set up a situation for his own comfort, based on his feelings for Garrett, that will prevent him from firing Garrett even if the Cowboys finish 5-11.

Don’t forget that Garrett’s contract runs out at the end of the season. Jerry will never fire Jason during the season, and if he decides he has to move on, he will simply go sign another coach, deciding not to resign JG, never having to actually fire him.

Jerry is a smart man. He didn’t want to fire his boy, and he made sure he wouldn’t need to do so.

Prediction? Garrett’s success with Dak makes him the next coach of
  • Giants
  • Browns
  • Jets (3 places where he would actually be a step forward)
Or,
  • Dolphins
  • Broncos (Places that have hired former Cowboys in the past)
Final prediction — Forget the talk about college coaches. Jerry won’t want to start over with another young guy who’s never coached in the NFL or been a head coach. Plus, the first crop of hot young geniuses have done little this year, and the newest crop seem lost. Look for Jerry to try to bring in a defensive minded former head coach or defensive coordinator. Won’t surprise me if he tries to keep Moore as OC, and based on this year’s numbers, that may be an easy sell to a defensive minded coach.

I wonder ...
  • Did Nick Saban learn anything from his first NFL tenure
  • Might Saban be ready to move on from Alabama at this point
Great.

Jeff Fisher come on down!

Garrett will be gone. Fans will revolt if he is re-signed. Jerry knows this
How would they do that? Stop buying tickets, concessions and merch? Stop watching? The fans are full of **** with all their unrest and Booger knows it.

Wj, do you really think all, or any, of the posters here are going to stop being fans if he extends Garrett? Hell no, it feels good to threaten but they're not going anywhere because they're not here for Garrett in the first place. Any more than they are for Booger or the Highland Park Hillbillies.

The Joneses and Garrett are the heartburn or indigestion that comes with eating spicy chili and we ain't giving up spicy chili.

Not to me. Fired means you are willing to pay out the contract in order not to have them coach.

Jerry will let him finish the season because he's his pet project that he so desperately wants things to work out. He still has high hopes. But not getting a new contract says you're simply not good enough for 2020 and beyond.

When a head coach's contract is not renewed, it is viewed as being "fired".

Jason Garrett's tenure as head coach will have ended because Jerry decided Garrett was no longer wanted.

People seem to be arguing semantics on this one. Fired, not renewed, really doesn't matter as long as he isn't coaching this team in 2020.

Wade Phillips' coached team was 0-2 in the NFC East during the losing streak of 2010. His team went 1-2 versus the AFC and 0-5 in the conference.

The above were not ALL the factors for Jerry Jones jettisoning Phillips. However, those were some of the circumstances within the losing streak that he considered.

Currently, Jason Garrett's team is 4-0 in the NFC East. Garrett's team has gone 1-1 against the AFC and 4-3 in the conference.

Now.

Some of CowboysZone's members have tabbed Garrett's latest umpteenth D-Day as Detroit. A Sunday loss would put the team at 4-4 in the conference, an overall record of 5-5 and still 4-0 in the division.

Can anyone PLEASE explain why they think Jones would can Garrett following (for instance) a 50-14 rout at the hands of Detroit? Keep in mind it is completely understandable why you would not let Garrett even board the flight back home. You would have gotten rid of Garrett years ago. Everybody gets that.

Can some people just for once, stop for ONE second, think, and state in their own words why they *know* Jones would do exactly what they would do about Garrett following a loss to the Lions? Jones has been like some festering boil in plain view of, heck, everyone on Earth, for thirty... freaking... years... It should not be this difficult having a feel for what Jones will likely or not likely do.

Being fired compared to not being offered an extension. Difference without a distinction.

He will get fired if they lose against the Lions
he will not get fired....it makes no sense to fire him, given if we lose the next game, and probably the game after that, the season is done....so putting in another coach is not going to salvage it....there is only 7 games left.

plus don't forget, garrett is in the last year of his contract....he has 7 games left.

Fired midseason? Nope. If losing to the Jets won't get you fired, nothing will midseason. Jerry won't do Jason like that. Wade was not a Jerry guy. Jason was here in the 90s dynasty when Jerry first took over. Jason was handpicked in 2007 to be the OC before Wade was even hired. That is unheard of as the HC brings in his people. Jerry desperately wanted Jason to succeed and hung on as long as he could. But this season will be his undoing.

he could offer him an assistant GM gig kinda like Coughlin in Jacksonville. If you think about what Garrett does best it would utilize all of his positives and not expose the negatives.
I could see that.

Remember Jerry’s comments about when and why he hired Bill Parcells? If not look them up.
