Just because the backup sucks does mean Heath does not suck
80% of this Forum wanted Jeff Health off the field and almost every big play by the Lions today was on Darian Thompson.
Heath is below average and better as a backup, but you still have to be careful what you wish for. For all the posters saying "anyone but Heath", Thompson could easily have cost us the game against a better opponent.
Thornhill is a FS/CB type player.Ahhh, who we coulda drafted instead of Hill
He was also single-handily responsible for at least 2 big runs.Haven’t read this entire thread yet so maybe it’s already been brought up, but Thompson literally gave up a huge completion AND face masked the guy on the same play.
Cost us a ton of yards total.
It’s funny how Heath is a whipping boy around here.
Heath is our best Safety. By far. All of the Heath hating is being exposed right in front of our eyes as foolish talk.
He got steam rolled in the first quarter, Whiffed on Driskill, missed tackles, got abused in coverage, had the penalty. He is going to have nightmares tonight.Haven’t read this entire thread yet so maybe it’s already been brought up, but Thompson literally gave up a huge completion AND face masked the guy on the same play.

No I miss Minkah Fitzpatrick...we whiffed on that deal. We were playing the Dolphins that week, should have had that deal.

Heath is our best safety. Heath is not a good safety. Both can be true at the same time.Heath is our best Safety. By far. All of the Heath hating is being exposed right in front of our eyes as foolish talk.
There are better guys playing Jeff Heath's position. Unfortunately, none of them are on the Cowboys roster.
I never understood the attention Heath got. He’s a JAG on a pretty bad defense with problems all over the field but Heath has been the scapegoat for a long time. For all the complaining about Heath, few complainers realize the futility of blaming a guy for being the best of limited options, instead of those who gave us the limited options.
People similarly hated on Nick Hayden for being the best of limited options while he consistently outperformed his contract.
Best safety at getting burned?Ludacris! Wood’s is our best Safety! Only person on the team that gets interceptions....

Maybe what we saw today is what the coaches have been seeing in practice. Maybe that's why Heath had to be injured for him to play.Heath was having a bad year, and Thompson played well in limited snaps. I was in favor of giving Thompson a lot more snaps from Heath.
Ok. We've got a clearer look at Thompson. Not better than Heath. Disappointing, but not a huge surprise either.
Let's get The GOAT back out there.
But this is how it should work. When backups look better, you give them a chance with more snaps. If they can't handle it, you go back to your original starter.
If you're not trying things that don't work out, you're not really trying. You're just way too conservative on making changes.
I, for one, am happy to see the Legend of The GOAT continue.
GOAT!
