I have look at the Cowboys roster, current coaching staff, GM and Owner who is the same idiot that destroyed the team of the 90's in 2 years. Jerry hired Bill Parcells to get his stadium (he said it himself). Now he needs to do what he did in 1989 and hire a college Head Coach that can relate to a young team, can out coach many of his peers, and has an eye for talent and player development.

Its time for an Urban renewal to hire Urban Meyer as HC of the Dallas Cowboys.

Urban proved he can win with any style QB you want from the no throwing always running Tim Tebow, to the 3 headed monster of Barrett, Miller, and Cardale Jones, and to the pocket passing of the Chosen One Dewayne Haskins. So getting a runner and thrower like Prescott to lead the team to a championship would be no problem. Meyer was born in the cradle of football coaches, OHIO and has a coaching tree that is all over the top college football programs and the NFL.

As for as player development, he is unmatched in recent history. He made Bowling Green a mid america power developing Josh Harris, then developed Alex Smith into the no.1 overall pick with an undefeated season at Utah. He developed mid level, to good recruits at Utah into 12-0 team that won the Fiesta Bowl. He then went on an Urban renewal of the University of FL. He made everyone forget Steve Spurrier by winning 2 National Championships. He then pull of a Parcells retirement to go to the job he wanted as a child...O H I O! He has so many mid level to good recruits develop under him that NFL teams consider Ohio St. a natural minor league NFL team program. Look at the DBs on the Saints starting roster, Haskins and the leading rookie WR in the NFL in DC, and he took only the no. 9 rated high school RB in 2013 and developed him into a RB that ran his self to a National Championship destroying Wisconsin, Alabama, and Oregon becoming the no. 4 overall pick in the 2016 draft. Urban Meyer knows how to coach, pick talent, and develop talent. He is the closest thing to Jimmy Johnson college football has to offer since 1989.

Yes his players have gotten arrested, charged and found guilty of murder, have had numerous off the field issues. But for a collision sport like football, you are going to have some bad attitude social unadjusted players. But for every Aaron Hernandez, there was a Tim Tebow, J. T. Barrett, Alex Smith, Braxton Miller, or Dewayne Haskins providing leadership. He has a Jimmy Johnson philosophy regarding players and relating to players.."treat everyone....different based on performance". Based on his 187-32 coaching record, it works and wins championships. To hell with the "Right Kinda of Guys" we need the "Right Guys" PERIOD.

Urban Meyer can coach and develop coaches that are successful for him and others...ask Mike Varbel, Charlie Strong, Ryan Day, Gary Anderson, Dan Mullen, Tom Herman, Greg Shiano, Kyle Whittingham, and his mentor Lou Holtz. But what is special about Urban Meyer besides every where he goes he wins championships is that every where he leaves they keep winning championships.

Jerry bit the bullet giving up control for Jimmy Johnson, Bill Parcells, and now its time for Urban Renewal.

Dan Snyder will hire him in Washington.

He's going to USC. Move on.
Its either going to be Urban Meyer in Dallas or Chris Petersen. Either one will be a monumental upgrade to the Cowboys.

Urban Meyer at USC would be like our sun exploding to a black hole. You think the Pete Carroll days were wild. I see Urban Meyer style now better suited for the Pros. If DC hires him, we are screwed without Chris Petersen.

I'm leery of college coaches but I wouldn't hate it. I'd rather get a great NFL defensive coordinator as my head coach...
Urban Myer started out on defense. But unless Lovie Smith walks through that door, I have no interest in Defensive or Offensive Coaches that have not been a successful HC on college or pro level.

I wish there was an 1-800 number to just dial up a guy like that.

I would take a chance on Don Martindale, the Ravens DC.

I’m not against the Myer deal but just not sure the man has had a bunch of health problems causing him to retire twice. I’ve alway heard the pros is more stressful than the college game. Just not sure he holds up long enough to put together his team. I loved having Parcells but he left right as the team was coming together. I think under Bill 07 is a deep run or a SB maybe. I’d just like a guy that could come in build his team and win with it.

No more on the job training. Get someone that has done it before, seen it before, and knows what happens before.

Martindale has a good recent defensive pedigree but he has been on some stinkers before going to the land of OZ (Ozzie Newsome).

U need a culture change like the Cowboys got in 1989 and 2003.

Yes. A freaking retread with health problems and no NFL experience.

These college guys rarely understand how to deal with grown men.

sorry, I am not a college coach for cowboys fan...there is a learning curve for any and I mean any college coach unless he has a very strong coaching staff....and I disagree that NFL coaches are Urban's peers....other college coaches are his peers. he hasn't proven he can coach in the NFL....many other before him specially in the past 15 years have failed. and failed miserably and they had similar resumes.....

college games are very different than NFL. in college its all and I mean ALL about recruiting. playing that spread offense and putting your 4th and 5th WR against the other teams 4th, 5th WR. its a matter of who got the best recruiting class. the offenses and defenses are very simple. it comes down to the 5-8 teams that have amassed talent through recruiting and which ones happen to translate their game to college....

in the NFL, everyone is the best players from college. everyone is fast. everyone is good. and more importantly there is a salary cap to make sure teams are pretty even and can't amass "recruits" like cowboys did in the 90s'

he has shown he can recruit and build a program. he hasn't shown he can't take an NFL team and make them competitive. Saban failed. Kelly failed. Petrino failed. the list is longer than that. and all those coaches were great in college.

I would be OK with a college coach if we were rebuilding. for a team, with this talent, we need an NFL ready coach.

Very little of that is relevant and/or true. First it wasn't Jones that turned the Cowboys after their 90's run, it was something the league started called the salary cap. We as Cowboys fans got spoiled because Jones paid guys that were backups here starter type money who later later having had to be released because of that cap ended up as starters on other teams.

Second, Johnson was in the tiny minority of former college coaches that turned things around on an NFL team as a 1st time NFL head coach. The hugely vast majority of college coaches as 1st time head coaches in the NFL fail. Several of those coaches you name that come from the Meyers coaching tree have had some success in the NFL BUT their first jobs in the NFL were as position coaches or coordinators and not 1st time head coaches.

Third trying to equate how college teams are built to how they are built in the NFL is like comparing apples and squash. In college every year the same 5 - 10 schools are the top teams. This is because those colleges go out and get all of the 5 star high school players and all of the rest of the colleges get the leftovers. Also just about every year we hear about one of the colleges that are under investigation for their recruiting violations. In the NFL teams can't just go out and grab up all of the best college players they have to do it one player at a time in a predetermined order.

Lastly college coaches can play god to the young players and don't have a CBA that dictates how they can and can't treat players. If a college coach thinks the team is having a bad practice he can keep them out there practicing as long as he wants to. NFL coaches can't do that. NFL players are not kids and can't be handled like college coaches can who had the kids that play for them.

So if you want the Cowboys to suffer through another 3 - 5 years when they bring in a Meyers being a 1st time NFL head coach and be like the majority and fail, wish all you want, but those of us that understand ALL of the differences between college and the NFL will continue to hope that the Cowboys don't do the college 1st time head coach approach.

An Urban Renewal? I love the play on words but to be honest, we need a full-on demolition.
