Riley is just this years (next year's) McVey. The trend of hiring a young coach just because he looked smart, when in fact he has not enough experience to LEAD A TEAM .. a whole team I say.
Don't get fooled by Rams beating the Cardinals. Against well-coached teams they will struggle. He walked into a perfect situation with a loaded roster and they made him look smarter than he actually was( he learned few tricks from the real genius Shanahan).
Follow the Rams, he does not talk to the defense or ST, just a figure head who was told to work with offense.
Riley, I am afraid, could be the same. What is his experience with a football team? how long did he spend with all phases???

Urban Meyer on the other hand? coached both on defensive and offensive side of the ball, spent time watching a learning how a TEAM is coached and managed, WON something. He has that arrogant swag about him that makes me think of him as Jimmy Johnson 2.0. He also very close to College and knows what's there and how to assess talent

No debate here folks. The issue is, well Jerry make the move and check out his ego and give the keys to Meyer to do his thing

I was curious for those that know what the difference is between Urban Meyer and Lincoln Riley which would be better for the Cowboys and why ? I feel we need a great motivating Coach to get on the players azz and hold them accountable. When I have watched games can either one of these guys actually do that ?
Whichever is better on schemes, taking every advantage of your opponent and putting the players in the very possible position for success...this is who I want. I’m sick of following a team that plays stupid.

It won't matter. Jerruh will spend all the cap on guys like Jaylon and Witten and force the new coach to play them and the product will be the exact same as it has for he last 25 years. The one notable exception was Romo era cause he was transcendental.

And also Romo was not a Jones thing. That was Sean Peyton and Bill Parcells.

I seriously don't think Jones can scout out talent like that.

Urban Meyer hands down.

Since Jerry bought the team, we've had two strong personalities as head coaches. Jimmy, & Parcells. Jimmy took us to the promised land, & then some. Jimmy got it done, & quickly. Parcells didn't have Jimmy's fire but, was football royalty. He had us competing, & in the conversation. That was WITH Jerry interfering. I believe had Parcells stuck it out one more season, we would've got there in 2007.

We've had nothing but cream puffs besides these guys. Our results speak for themselves. We need another Jimmy. Urban Meyer looks much more like the 2020 version of Jimmy. What we've been doing hasn't worked.

Doubt the D improves under Riley. Hasn’t OU been lit up a few times? Cowboys need someone who can coach defense or who will bring in a very good defensive coordinator.

I'd be happy with either one.
I'd also add Chris Petersen to that list.
all 3 are just really good coaches who make solid adjustments and in-game decisions.

Leaving Washington is very curious indeed.

I'm curious about how the interviews will be conducted. I can see Jerry holding the meetings in his suite at AT&T over drinks with the Cheerleaders practicing their routine on the field and a bunch of partners, associates and hangers on milling about the place within earshot, gnoshing on shrimp cocktail and drinking Michter's. Jerry will talk about his days with Arkansas and how he built a champion with the Hershel Walker trade. His only question about the current team would be to ask if the candidate can work with a talent like Dak.

Good Lord, I may not live long enough to see another Championship.

I don't understand the infatuation with either one. If I had to pick, I would go with Lincoln Riley but I don't think he has a bigger personality than Garrett and can handle the Jerry Show. If Urban Meyer's health had problems in college ball, he's going to flame out quickly like Saban, Petrino and the rest of the failed college champs. Jimmy Johnson is the exception for college powerhouse coaches. And for that matter, hell, I would rather just bring back Jimmy!

The coach that can tell Jaylon Smith to sit on the bench and stop acting like a clown... that’s the coach we need. No more padding guys in the butt and allowing poor play.

Urban Meyer has coached at four programs: Bowling Green, Utah, Florida, and Ohio State. He improved all four of them, and won national titles at Florida and OSU.

Riley inherited a blue blood program with a recruiting pipeline, and hasn't won anything. He's never resurrected a program. OU has been his only gig.

Only a Big XII homer would see Riley as a better option.

Kris Richard as dc might be a solution...AS LONG as he goes away from the idiotic scheme Marinelli runs. IT DOESNT WORK.

Nick Saban is a great college coach...NFL, not so much. So why do you think Urban Meyer would make a great NFL coach?

My thinking, solely theoretical of course, is what the guy was able to do as soon as he walked into the door.

Bowling Green? 8-3, finished 17-6. No recruits, 8-3. With someone else's team. Previous season, pre-Meyer? 2-9

Utah? 10-2, also winning their first Conference Championship in forty years!! No recruits, 10-2. With someone else's team. Previous season, pre-Meyer? 5-6

Then of course, moving on to Florida and Ohio State..3!! National Championships and a few conference Championships, to throw in the trophy case.

My point being, he came in with nothing and won. Consistently. One could also say that the conferences he started off in, the talent disparity isn't as great.

Of course, all theoretical and speculation on my behalf..but that's what makes me think he has a fighting chance in the NFL.
