I understand where you're coming from, but if she's hurting more often than not, you need to think about it from her perspective.

She doesn't whine or cry, but she's never been one to complain unless she ain't getting her way. She weighs next to nothing, but gets 3 times the food she's supposed to get. Nothing wrong with her appetite.

Especially when your dog hates going to the vet. You don't want their final moments being in holy terror.

There are some vets that will come to your house for it. It costs extra, but it's worth it if the dog hates going to the vet. One of my dogs loves going to the vet. The other hates it. If the one that hates it needs to go and I take both, she's a lot better than if I just take her by herself.

I wish I had been able to do that but I didn't really expect to have to put her down when I went to the vet, and I don't think that service is offered in the town I live in. I at least got to spend some time with her alone to try and calm her down. I even got a little tail wag during that time.

I had to put down my little Chihuahua / Scottie mix today. She went from running 100mph a few days ago to severe kidney failure today and then gone. Gonna miss that little sweet dog. I'm not looking for sympathy, I just wondered if anyone wants to talk about the dog they miss. I can't believe how a dog can become such a family member, but it's true. I'm taking shots right now to deal with the pain.
That sucks. I put a horse down a few years ago and I cried like a baby. My dog is like a kid to us. Salud!

Lost our Natasha early this morning...

Natashia.jpg

She was actually our daughter's cat, but she spent a good chunk of her life with us while my daughter was deployed.

My daughter and her husband moved back east near us about a year and half ago.

"Natasha" was the perfect name for her. She was a beautiful cat with a little bit of an "I'm the Queen" attitude which rubbed my son-in-law the wrong way, so we ended up with her.

Natasha was a Katrina-cat who was moved from the New Orleans' area during the hurricane. She ended up at a shelter in the DC area during the time my daughter was stationed there.

The rest is history as they say.

Like the original post in this thread, Natasha was full of life until about the last month, when it seems her kidneys started to fail. She lost weight, lost her will to eat and yesterday her mobility. But we kept her on our laps and she passed peacefully before dawn this morning.

Our house is sadder and already emptier without her.

Sorry to hear, I'm sure it hurts. I've lost several pets over the years, it was tough when I was a kid. Got easier for a while, but it gets harder as I get older.

Yeah, I'm the same way. It was easier when I was a younger adult but I'm finding it harder to deal with as I get older. We have another 11-year-old dog and a 15-year-old cat and I'm dreading what is coming.

In a similar "boat".

4 other cats... 13, 11, 8 and ? (a feral female that took a shine to me 4 years ago).

I'm sorry for your loss, brother. Obviously you didn't feel the same way your son-in-law did, fortunately for Natasha.
