I think the Garrett era can be better described as Schrodinger's Cowboys. Are they dead or aren't they? You have to watch to see.
The Garrett era is just an extension of the Jerry puppet era.

I’m still amazed that all fans don’t recognize this serves Jerry’s interest not the best interest of the Cowboys.

We continue expecting Jerry to change his ways. And it’s simply not going to happen. At 77 he hasn’t had enough yet.

10 years of nothing, no rings. The man below will bring rings back to Dallas.
Urban Meyer was spotted in Dan Snyder's box, during the Sunday Commanders game. It was mentioned by the commentators last night during the MNF game.....

For the record, Urban said as much. There's an interview with him (on this site), where he all but says, he'd love to coach the Cowboys.
Yeah I saw that too. But when I read his quotes on coaching the Cowboys, it sounds generic, like “Who wouldn’t want to coach the Cowboys?” Not an absolute I will accept the job.

As I’ve said many times, Urban Meyer is a great college coach. We would be lucky to get him. But when you look at his college coaching career, he occasionally tussled with college presidents and athletic directors that tried to control his program. I can’t see Meyer agreeing to come here without a JimmyJohnson type contract that would give him full control.

Do any of us believe Jerry would be willing to give another coach that kind of control? If he is, then maybe we get Urban Meyer. If not, it’s nothing more than fan hope.

Much like Jerry’s thinking the last near quarter century...”If I just keep rolling the dice at the craps table, eventually I’m going to get lucky.” Or “Even a dead clock has the right time twice a day.”

He thought it would have been terrible to invest 5 years training a HC on the job only for another team to reap the benefits. You know he's gotta be struggling with letting a 10 year investment walk.

I like Urban Meyer. But what makes you think Jerry is going to hire him? Or that Meyer would agree to work in Jerry’s control circus?
Some Cowboy fans are hopeless romantics.

After watching Meyer with former player Alex Smith in Washington Sunday chumming up is a more likely scenario with Commanders and his more recent QB and WR looking promising. A much better situation there for Meyer IMO.

Of course. Bottom line is Jerry thinks he built a good enough team regardless what we think and he thinks he’s close to finally putting the Jimmy demons behind him. The last thing he wants is to bring in another HC who could prove it’s always been more about the coaching. And why he’s been so stirred up. He doesn’t want to change now. And probably won’t. Just in spite if nothing else.

It would be very unprofessional for him to declare in plain english, "I want the job" lol. The job, isn't available at the moment. It would be pretty disrespectful to insinuate, hey.... fire your current coach, & I'm your man..! He would really come off as a jerk. I think most professional coaches walk that tightrope carefully when asked about jobs, that aren't officially available yet.

As I’ve said many times, Urban Meyer is a great college coach. We would be lucky to get him. May be. Hard to say. In my opinion, Urban is definitely interested. What Jerry may or may not realize is, the fan base is BEGGING for a move like this. We haven't had a big splash so to speak like this, since Bill Parcells was hired. While many of us would like to believe, Jerry will at least consider giving up some control of the football side, to achieve glory again..... it's hard to say.

I continue to believe, money talks. Regardless of the control balance, if Jerry throws enough money at Urban Meyer, he'll be our next coach. Meyer has more than proven himself in the college ranks. The only feather left to put in his hat is, success at the highest level. I think the timing is right too. He isn't so far removed from the NCAA that he doesn't have a network, & the 411 on upcoming players. I think he'd be able to compete right away.

I believe the fan base would overwhelmingly support, & praise Jerry, if he brought another championship to Dallas. He would deserve a LOT of praise if he ate a slice of humble pie, & gave the keys to a strong willed coach. It would be difficult for him personally. He's a big personality. He's tried everything else in the last couple decades. He didn't get to where he's at by being an idiot. I will be absolutely shocked if he doesn't send Garrett walking the monday after our season ends.

...You don't pay attention much to what other people say, do you? Like you, I've been saying for years that Jerry is the main problem (here and on the defunct official forums), but there's nothing we can do about Jerry. We're stuck with his meddling until he dies. That's the cold, hard truth. That doesn't mean that Garrett is a good coach stuck trying to overcome Jerry. Someone might be able to mitigate Jerry's meddling better.

Why are we stuck with Jerry? Because most of the people that buy Cowboys merchandise, go to games, etc simply don't care and don't listen to people who tell them what might affect Jerry.... it is what it is..so we're stuck. The best we can hope for is coaching that can mitigate the damage until Jerry passes from this world. Garrett has proven that he's not that coach. He's had plenty of time to prove himself...and always ends up coming up short. Sure, there are worse coaches out there. There are better ones too... but not calling for his head is simply accepting the status quo and makes Jerry happy. Don't make Jerry happy. Garrett needs to go.

When was the last time Jerry was humble enough to realize he’s standing in the way of this team’s success?

1989 :D

Actually, never. In '89 he knew, he had his hands full, just taking care of the business side. This is why Jimmy, & his success on the field, was also a long term negative. He was successful quickly, considering where the team was when he started. The negative (in my opinion), it looked easy to Jerry. He was very jealous of the praise, & accolades that went to Jimmy. He wanted to be loved like Jimmy was/is.

Not many leopards ever change their spots. However, when you've tried everything else, what do you do..? Plenty of talking heads have said as much. We all know, Jerry does hear them. We'll never see a situation where Jerry gives up 100% control. So, the best we can hope for, is for a strong will coach like Meyer, who has some control, & can get more out of these players.

I’ve been trying to remember how he screwed up at in the Pack playoff game. I know we left too much time for Erin, but what was it exactly? We should’ve run once so the clock would run?? Do you or anyone remember the exact scenario? I know it was bad and that most people knew not to do it.
The team wasn't ready to play, fell way behind and couldn't come back.

This after they had a bye and an extra week to prepare. And they still weren't ready.

I understand the dysfunction is Dallas.

But to say the Commanders are a better situation?

The Commanders just might be the biggest train wreck in all of sports. Meyer may not coach in Dallas. But there is no way he goes to Washington either.

And that’s who I’m addressing is those fans who aren’t paying attention and still supporting Jerry.

The bigger point is I don’t believe it matters as long as Jerry’s in charge. It certainly hasn’t thus far with how many different Puppets.

The one really good fit for Booger and Meyer is that neither cares about the character of the players. That's the tussle he had with his superiors at FL and OSU and Jimmy was the same way. It's all about what happens on the field.

It really depends on what you're referring to by "He didn't get to where he's at....".

Jerry got this franchise to perpetual mediocrity by being a huge idiot. Jerry is a football idiot and doesn't even comprehend why.

Would Urban Meyer be willing to give credit to Jerry? Jerry might be able to live w/ Urban having control over most stuff if Urban gives him credit.
