Alvin Harper had 33 receptions the year before TB gave him a huge contract. For the 4 years he was in Dallas, his high was 36 catches, and his high in yardage was 821. Those numbers in no way indicate he was a #1 WR, and his skillset also did not point that way.Coop wasn't healthy yet he soldiered on for the team. We've seen the damage he can do when healthy.
Gallup has made a leap, partially due to all the coverage that rolls Coop's way. Kind of reminds me of how dominant Alvin Harper was playing opposite Michael Irvin. When he got his big contract from another team as "the man" he wasn't up to the task.
Is Gallup ready for WR1? If the answer is no, we absolutely need to re-sign Coop. I think Coop stays regardless.
Gallup just had 66/1,107 and showed many signs of possibly being a #1 type. Is he ready to be a #1? Hard to say.
