McCarthy has proven that he can win with a talented team. Now, it's up to Jerry the GM to provide him with the talent. It would have been interesting to see what McCarthy could have done with this year's group, but a lot of them will be gone ... and we need to replace them with equal or better players.

I've hated watching Garrett waste the careers of some of my favorite Cowboys. Now, Jerry doesn't need to waste time putting the bodies out there that are needed to take advantage of having players like the All-Pros on the offensive line who already are showing some wear and tear. Strike while the iron is hot.

Wishful thinking, but I'd love for Jerry to take a backseat on player acquisition entirely. Let it be up to Willie, Big Mikey and his band of misfits.

You know, the football guys making the football calls.

Jerry makes the ultimate call, but I doubt the decisions are actually much of his when it comes to player acquisition. He might get a bug every now and then for a certain player, but for the most part, it's McClay and the scouts finding the players to add.

This is a joke. I love how many people criticize Garrett for wasting Romo’s years, among other players, yet McCarthy had Rodgers for 11 years and a much more talented roster than Garrett ever had but he only came away with one SB. Let the crying begin.

This is it chief, I hate this hire. And I am at a all time low in excitement. As much as I love some of the players and this team....not watching is a consideration

There were years he had nothing but a QB. Thompson was worse than Jerry as GM. McCarthy and the Packers won the SB with a 16 guys in IR.

Honestly I’m okay with the head coach in the war room but the assistant coaches need to stay out of player acquisition decisions.

Well if he can win with a talented team this is a match made in Heaven.

Gonna be interesting to see if the team now gives Dak a long term deal for 35m+ per season or the franchise tag, what they do is gonna tell you alot about what McCarthy thinks about the QB position on the team at the moment

I'd like to think McCarthy has that kind of stroke but nah. Jerry made sure his new head coach approves of Prescott.

Tompson was terrible. They let all of the best players get away. At least McCarthy took that talent and brought it to the playoffs many times over. What has Garrett done when given talent?

Rogers also might be one of the greatest QBs of all time. However, he came with allot of baggage. He never got along with McCarthy from the beginning and never really cared for his teammates. In fact, Rogers, seemed to overruled alot of what McCarthy was doing. Most of the criticism about McCarthy is coming from Rogers only - who has a personal vendetta against from the start. Try coaching a QB that hates you and keeps overruling you all the time. Couple that with Tompson, who was worst than Jerry. I don't think McCarthy is the best coach possible. But people gotta give him a bit of credit too for handling that messy situation in Green Bay.

Yup he's proven he can win. 13 years with 2 different HOF QB's and 1 SB.

It's also somewhat relevant to point out that McCarthy was the OC of the 49ers when they passed on Rodgers for Smith.

He also made 3 other NFC title games and the playoffs 9 years straight.

Your post makes it seem like he accomplished nothing.

Pete Carroll, Sean Payton, Andy Reid, Mike Tomlin.

There are a bunch of really good coaches out there that have achieved around the same success as McCarthy. Even given Elite quarterbacks.

Yeap Rogers never forgot that and took it out on McCarthy. Blamed him for making him 4 fricken hours long during draft day and wasted his time while he coulda, shoulda been the #1 pick overall.

If Dak gets the tag this season then i think McCarthy was like "let me look at him for a year 1st" which is ok for a coach to do and if that is the case then that would mean he wasn't sold on Dak yet, if he is sold on him then Dak gets locked up long term this offseason. Be fun to see how it plays out. McCarthy had some stroke with Jerry, he was wanted elsewhere and he has won a SB

Sure is interesting that McCarthy coached a totally likable HOF QB in Favre that everybody loved, players, analysts, fans, etc and followed that up with the most famously prickish HOF QB the league had seen in a long long time in ARod.
