I love the McCarthy signing. His experience and track record speaks for itself, and that's something the talented players here need as reinforcement. In addition to that compelling part of McCarthy's resume, he's also proven himself very capable of effectively managing the ups and downs that naturally come with being an NFL coach, and he has the guts to make tough and unpopular decisions when the need arises.

I just can't shake the feeling that 1/6/2020 will be a date all Cowboys fans hold in great regard.

In all seriousness do you like the hire or not?

I do appreciate your biting sarcasm. I’m a fan of your posting style. But I would like to hear what you truly feel about it.

Just Happy that someone from above, ie the HC will be exercising discipline, like a man, to the the team. Obviously, some Cowboys are already self-disciplined. Anyway, how can I not be happy that carrot top is gone!

Yes I like it because I just can't convince myself that an established Super Bowl winning Head Coach with so many teams interested in him decided to take a powerless puppet job in Dallas one week after the season ended. Doesn't make any sense to me.

I don't know to what degree but Jerry made some concessions to get him here. That's the only logical conclusion to land a guy as accomplished and in demand as McCarthy.

Don’t know if you’re serious are not because you usually aren’t, but Jerry said as much after the Philly game that his way wasn’t working and it was time for him to change. Jerry speak, but he said it.

Overall, I really like this hire. Mike was my #2 choice (liked Urban) but honestly I think of all the realistic candidates, he was the one to most likely succeed. If you compare him to Sean Payton in NO and Andy Reid in Philly, they have really similar win-loss records (postseason too). I think he will do well with Dak and am excited to see what he does with Zeke. He has never had a RB that good. The next phase is who he gets to be on his staff. Really doesn't make sense for Kellen to stick around unless Mike lets him call plays. I wouldn't mind seeing Kitna, Gary Brown, or Colombo come back. Defensive staff needs to be completely changed. I like the Mike Nolan hire. This team HAS to address the defense in F.A and the draft. If they don't, same old crap. My realistic (key word realistic) expectations next year? Win the East and at least make the divisional round/conference championship. I'd like to see them get to the Super Bowl but that is asking a lot for a first year coach. However, Dallas is in win now mode.

I'm serious. McCarthy interviewed with 4 teams. He interviewed with Carolina twice. In fact, no other coach has had more interviews. This is a guy with skins on the wall and plenty of options. So why jump at being a puppet in Dallas when the other 3 jobs you're in the running for are still open?

It's just illogical to think this is another puppet. Not with who it is and how it went down.

Those are some really solid points. I hadn’t thought of it from that angle, but you’re right. McCarthy has zero reason to take a puppet job.

It’s reminiscent of the Parcells hire in that regard. Hopefully, like Parcells, McCarthy will be able to keep some of Jerry’s worst impulses in check.

McCarthy made the post season 8/12 times , in 12 years .

hells. yeah .
That's what I love about the hire. Dallas has made the playoffs 4 times in 12 years..lol at least he gives us a chance. If he's here 5 years I'd say Dallas makes the postseason at least 4 times. I like those chances. I think he will have a real solid window to win the Super Bowl. He has a lot at stake too. He could be the first coach to win a Super Bowl with two teams. That's his ticket in the Hall of Fame.

I agree, he’s not going to be Jerry’s puppet.

I'll say this too...this gives me hope. I haven't had much in my 20 years of being a fan. It's been bad....As a kid I was in awe of that 2003 10-6 team with Quincy Carter and Troy Hambrick!!!! I just want one Super Bowl win. That's it. I think Mike gives us a great chance. Welcome!
