Haha, the Garrett Fan Club is showing their hypocrisy. Garrett took over a team that made the playoffs and won a playoff game the year before -- and was expected to make the Super Bowl -- but they loved to claim that he took over a wreck that needed years to rebuild.
Now McCarthy takes over a team that lost 8 of its last 13 but they want to claim this team should win this year or else.
Pick one or the other, but at least be consistent.
There’s a sharp difference.
Garrett took over a 1-7 team that had been by most critics analysis spiraling down since 2008. Heading into 2010 there were many concerns with an aging and injury riddled OL that had shown its vulnerability in Vikings blowout in playoffs in what wasn’t touted as an upward swing even though had won its first playoff game since 90’s team.
The fact that Wades tenure had depleted the talent he inherited from Parcells with 4 poor drafts in comparison the team looked evermore dependent on Romo. The fact in 2010 was the only season we had a losing record with Romo healthy (1-5) is an indicator the concerns were valid .
This season coming off a season where we’d come close to making a championship appearance was more of an upward trend with a roster most touted along with Jerry , Stephen , media, and fans as a team that should be taking the next step deeper in playoffs which created the mandate or expectation to at least make the championship game.
And as a result of these expectations not fulfilling brought about a coaching change as most felt this roster of talent was under achieving needing greater coaching .
That’s why the expectations are so much higher if you follow the rhetoric our ownership , media and fans have all aligned with that this team is talented enough to contend now. Not 3-5 years needing a rebuild or retooling which I’ve heard or read nothing about.
And hypocrisy would be mandating an expectation to make at least a championship appearance with Garrett with this highly touted talented roster and not the same expectation with a more proven Super Bowl caliber HC.
