A huge complaint from fans for the last 5+ years has been the refusual to pay outside help to improve the roster. The biggest thing we hear is "we like the guys we have"

With 8 starters not under contract next year (Cobb, Quinn, Bennett, Byron, Maliek/Convington, Dak, Cooper, Witten) along with players like LVE/Williams being question marks health wise do you see the organziation changing there ways and actually get outside help ?

Look what Greenbay did. They upgraded 5 starting positions via free agency (Safety, both DE spots, Guard, and CB) and then got 2 more full time starters via draft (Darnell Savage and Elgton Jenkins). Thats 7 full time starters in 1 off-season :eek:

I could see the team getting 2 full time starters via free agency and signing at least 3 or 4 open market guys to compete for starting jobs. Especially since some of these position (like both DT spots and TE) you don't exactly have to spend much money to upgrade what we have....... (lol)

There’s a salary cap. The Cowboys are going to either sign to a long term contract or franchise tag Dak and or Cooper depending on the CBA negotiations. That’s not going to leave much to sign many if any FA’s.

They have to be careful in upgrading their team and bringing back the right guys. We had a lot of guys underachieve or play bad football this season and out of those 8 starters none of them were bad. Witten is replaceable as is Collins. But the rest of those guys? Gonna be tougher to replace.

With the new staff, I thought of that as well. Here's to hoping that was a negotiating fact (using free agency to augment team building) with the McCarthy hire.

Yes, until they sign or franchise Dak and or Cooper.
No your not understanding him. They have almost 20 million in roll over cap from this year, the cap is gonna increase another 10 million, and they save 8 million by cutting crawford.

The 50-55 million dollars of free cap he was referring to was with the Cooper/Dak deal in place

That's what makes this interesting. With good 1st/2nd round picks and some good free agent money they could potentially pull what Greenbay did in 2019 off-season

Quick search shows that as of now, the Cowboys have $81,903,628 in cap space. Dak’s going to get between 32-35 mill either franchise tag or contract. Say 33 mil. For Dak and 17 mill for Cooper. That leaves about 31 million for everyone else. They might be able to sign 1 big name FA. Maybe.

And requires more money or draft capital

I think this is the year for coaching changes.

Next year personnel.

I think we need to let these new coaches see what they have in 2020.

That leaves little room for new signings except for backups.

Anything else means somebody like not signing Cooper would have to occur.

And really, why change the philosophy? Talent is not the issue with this team. Being frugal in free agency has been working rather well IMO.

The spots we really need are DT, TE and SS, then CB depending on how the offseason plays out.

The draft doesn't look like it will have a TE or SS at 17 so those positions could easily be targets for a FA signing.

If we sign Dak and cooper, probably Cobb
Then 4-5 of our other guys there won’t be a lot
Look for a couple one year prove it types like we did with Quinn
But we need a homerun draft

That's not correct. It's been broken down several times. The Cowboys could set the market at QB and WR and still come away with plenty of money to sign a couple high dollar guys. I'd personally make Quinn one of those guys as long as he didn't want a lot of years.

I personally like Delpit and Xavier Woods at Safety. I'm not as down on Woods as many of you are. I see the flashes and think he really just needs the right coach. Maybe Nolan/new DB coach are those guys?

I would expect they won't be active on the high end of the market, aside from taking care of some of their own like Dak and Cooper. However, I could see them pursue some good 2nd tier guys to fill holes or replace potential departures like Jones and Quinn, or even a safety. Will definitely see some veteran guys brought in with ties to the new coaches.

I will say getting Dak or Cooper signed would be huge. They have a valuable asset in Byron Jones that could be Franchised or Transition tag to get some nice compensation in return via trade if they don't plan to sign him. Considering Ramsey was traded for a 1st round pick, as a former all-pro I would think Jones could at least garner a single first rounder. Worst case a 2nd, but that would be huge rather than just walking away.
