Quick search shows that as of now, the Cowboys have $81,903,628 in cap space. Dak’s going to get between 32-35 mill either franchise tag or contract. Say 33 mil. For Dak and 17 mill for Cooper. That leaves about 31 million for everyone else. They might be able to sign 1 big name FA. Maybe.
Even by those numbers 2 long term deals (with the signing bonus prorated) would leave 36-38 million with another 8 million saved by Crawford. Where now at mid 40s easy, plenty of cash to get players that can actually start (especially at positions like TE, DT, and SS where we would only need mid tier signings to upgrade what we have)

I personally like Delpit and Xavier Woods at Safety. I'm not as down on Woods as many of you are. I see the flashes and think he really just needs the right coach. Maybe Nolan/new DB coach are those guys?

Agree. Woods stepped up his play this year but didn't turn into the above average FS they pictured. It could certainly happen this year though.

Adding a better SS is a twofer, you upgrade from Heath and then put Heath into his proper role as a ST demon and quality backup.

Stephen, McClay, and the new regime are gonna have some work to do over the next couple of months. Starting by tearing down all the goofy motivation signs from JG.

But why? Their approach to FA has been very good. No need to change it.

You can add another 5 Million by drafting an swing OT (we will have six starting caliber OL next year, Williams will effectively be the swing tackle) and cutting FLeming, along with replacing Chris Jones as the Punter.

And all of that is before you do a bonus restructuring for contacts like DLaw, Frederick, Zack Martin or Tyron. In reality they can create as much room as they want to, but its unlikely they would get to that point even if they went hog wild in FA.

Generally no, but you do need a TE and SS in free agency because this draft doesn't look like it will have immediate starters at those positions.

DT is a wildcard but that might be a spot to spend money as well.

Jerry is going to let McCarthy and staff get at least 2-3 starters via Free agency. In addition to Cooper+Dak.

There approach has been good but not great.

The whole "where gonna outdraft everyone and that's it" isn't enough to build a deep enough roster to contend for a deep playoff run.

Look at last year, they could of upgraded 3 starting positions on defense for a combined 10 million. That's the difference between 8 wins and 11 wins even with crappy coaching

Yeah that's the issue. Last few drafts where not getting the usual 3 legit starters so we need outside help. You can't build a deep playoff caliber roster with just draft only (trying to beat other teams by only outdrafting them isn't enough)

Having a solid core of draft/home grown talent is good but not everything

Don’t forget we’re rolling over 20 million unused from this past season. We’re looking at about 100 million. The franchise for Dak -35 million = 65 million to spend. I’m sure Cooper will get a fairly large bonus so his cap # won’t be large 1st year. They can go out and get 2-3 PREMIUM free agents, plus sign depth guys no problem.

IMO you can do it that way but when you have a Taco Charlton, you have to throw money at his replacement.

Also this was supposed to be the year that Maliek Collins blossomed, played like a monster and earned a big contract. La'el Collins did it but Maliek Collins did not.

Those two positions would certainly be the ones to splurge on if that’s what they decide to do.

I hope the Joneses still have interest in Jets' free agent All-Pro Safety Jamal Adams as they are well aware he'd love to play for the Cowboys. That being said, I would want it to be McCarthy's (and Nolan's) decision based on what they want to do with the defense.

Danny Shelton with your choice of Brown or Hankins would of cost a combined 6 million and added 2 superior starters. Other 4 million you could of upgraded Strong Safety or added a mid tier linebacker for rotation

I dont expect really anything much in free agency. Dallas doesnt really have as much cap as people like to think.
