I mean, you can spin things anyway you want. McCarthy pass first could mean we don't establish Zeke, which would upset people. Up tempo means you hurry off the field. Nolan's defense get takeaways and Tomsula's get more sacks but what's the downside? You rarely get something for free. I'll give you Fassel.

The bottom line is this; fans subscribe to the idea that anything different must be better. Maybe it will be, maybe it won't. But most of what is described is just a different philosophy. And for the most part, every philosophy has pluses and minuses. The real wildcard is the players. Better players make the difference.

This is exactly right. Our current talent doesn't fit the playing style we are likely to see on both sides of the ball IMO.

like I said... if you replaced these NFL guys with HS coaches... sure it matters. But replacing one defensive line coach with 15 years of NFL experience with another defensive line coach with 15 years NFL experience wont make one bit of difference.
Coaching changes happen every season. Look at the last 3 seasons nfl head coaching changes. They all had staff's get revamped. Then look at how many of them have had amazing results. Its comical to me.

So your saying coaching doesn't matter and that we will be back to square one with the same issues as before?

lol. Been a fan a long time. My emotion for this team has been tempered by decades of failure by this FO and team. But, I am being as optimistic as I can at this point. I do like the hires thus far. Nolan worries me a bit just because his track record of being employed is not that good. Is this because he doesn't get a long with people? or something else?

I say let's wipe the slate....and give the benefit of doubt. And I say this as giving THIS year a "clean slate"...and being mad as H-E-double hockey sticks.

Nolan? Not sure what his track record is. But imma let Mac do his job, for now.

lol.... you are kidding right? The packers had Rodgers in practice for at least 2 full seasons. They knew they were ready to move on. They didnt draft Rodgers in the first rd to let him sit forever.
Andrew Luck was one of the greatest QB prospects coming out of college in over 20 years. Manning was let go because the Colts had the number 1 pick and knew it was going to be Luck. Had Luck not retired hed be definitely going to the HOF. lets be real in our discussions.

Luck was going to be HOF? Based on what?

IMO, the only thing that will really impact our progress is how Dak plays and how well we draft this year.. Obviously who we keep and who we lose will make have a huge impact, but who our special teams coach is??? cmon. Will the special teams coach make our punter actually kick the ball higher and deeper? Hell no. The only thing that will fix that is getting a different punter.

Nolan is my main concern...........I'm trying to figure out if he was the best option or merely a pay back hire.

A "my guy" kind of hire. Maybe.

He does look iffy. Been coaching forever, but never really stuck anywhere. Demoted from former HC and DC positions to LB coach since 2015. Not an "up and comer". At least he's not an intern.

From what I've heard of his coaching philosophy, I thought it sounded good. More attacking. More confusion to the QB.

He's the biggest question mark of the hires so far.

How many OC has the Pats been through during Brady's tenure. Did any of them make any significant difference? Please dont talk to me about the one 18-0 season they happened to have the great Moss on their team.

lol... is this a joke? there's been three. Charlie weiss at the beginning, Bill O'brien for 1 year, and McDaniels for the remainder. Regardless, stop arguing semantics and honing in on something insignificant. The larger point is that there are numerous examples of underperforming HC's returning to coordinating and doing well.

yeah, let's be real. Nobody knew Rogers would end up the QB he became. Nobody. There may have been some signs and a lot of hope, but it wasn't a slam dunk. It is safe to assume the packers felt comfortable giving the keys to Rogers, but they weren't sitting there saying, "This guys is going to be a HOF one day."

I agree, but the point was it was an easy decision, IMO, to make this move. They were done with Favre's on again off again retirement, and they wanted to see what Rodgers could do. This was not an incredibly difficult decision.

no doubt... but WHY? why did they fail COACHING in one place, yet excelled in the other place? hmmm... JJ was an amazing coach at Miami(NCAA) and in Dallas. Pretty avg in Miami(NFL)... why? This is a rhetorical question.

Mike Nolan!! Every fans board that hired a new coach is optimistic, heck even the Giants board. But anybody that thinks this retread, kicked around, never was, just wont leave member of the coaching fraternity is a good hire either doesnt follow the NFL or has a screw loose.

I think Nolan is pretty decent for a DC. Head coach, no way. But we’ve been wanting the defense to get more turnovers for years, and he brings that.
