I agree but think they will at least make an attempt/offer.........
The Boys have talked publicly about re-signing Jones, possibly as early as this offseason. But if he knows he can be a $14 million APY guy if he repeats his '18 season, why should he bow to anywhere near his present salary of $6.2 mil?!

That said, with the signings of Tank/Zeke and the continues to sign Dak/Amari. They do not talk of Jones at the same level, because while they view him as a very good corner, there has not been '19 justification to view him for a team with available cap funds for 2020 as a priority.

I favor not spending another nickel on Jones. I think they need to elevate Lewis, extend Brown, and draft a CB in 3/4 round.

Jones is a great athlete that is not a difference making CB.

If you look at the WRs Mike had with the Packers ( Jordy Nelson and Donald Driver ), it may change their long-term projection for Cooper but we can't afford to lose him cold turkey. This is why I think they will make him a modest offer in the range of franchise tag amount BUT not a lot guaranteed money. If he refuses they tag him for a year and let him walk.

Jones isn't coming back.

You might be right but why let him walk for a possible comp pick that you will only receive if you sit out free agency? Use one of the tags that lets him negotiate with other teams and see what happens. It may end up being a deal you want to match. If not, you get a higher pick or two this year, not next. And you don’t have to sit out free agency to protect the comp pick. Worse case scenario is he plays another year in Dallas for top 5 or top 10 money. I’ll take that for the chance to recoup a 1st or 2nd round pick this year instead of a 3rd or 4th next year.

Fine, then put the tag on him that won’t deter other teams and take the picks that come back this year instead of a comp pick next year which hamstrings you in free agency anyway.

The transition tag doesn't net you compensation.

I’d draft a C.B. early
Jones and brown are FA
Awuzie and Lewis next year

With all the team's other needs, I would hate to see the Cowboys draft a 1st round WR.

I thought so also, until I saw the declining play of the rest of our cbs. That made me think perhaps we retain Jones.

I like the player but the cost will likely be prohibitive.

Remember when there was thought of keeping Hitchens and then that contract offer came out from the Chiefs?

I would transition tag Cooper and franchise Byron. I think there are going to be some red flags with Amari that very well could bring his price down. I think Byron gets a max deal from someone.

I don't want to set the market for Amari - he makes me nervous!

Sign Brown first. If he won't bite on a contract offer, then try to sign Jones but my gut tells me some team will over Jones a stupid contract and he will take it. Don't be surprised if that team is the Giants or Eagles.

The Cowboys 1st priority is and must remain DT or upgrading that DL. They need more than just a 1st round draft pick. They need a free agent or two as well. If they can get a top DT in the draft, another stud in free agency, and then sign a DE to replace Quinn, the CB spot will be less concerning, at least for 2020. They can draft depth in the later rounds.

Who here would not be happy is the Cowboys went DT, Safety in rounds 1 and 2?
