He is name thats been brought up around here of late.

Do you think he will go closer to Delpit's range in the middle of the first round? Or will he go closer to the end of the 1st, or early 2nd?

Going into the 2019 season the early projections seemed to have Delpit as the top safety and then everyone else. McKinney was often viewed as the second best safety in this draft class after Delpit but then this season happened.

McKinney had a monster year and has moved from being a mid-1st to 2nd round pick to a solid 1st round in many accounts.

Think of it kind of similar to the debate back between Earl Thomas and Eric Berry. At the end of the day it really comes down to what type of prospect do you want.

Delpit is seen as more of a ball hawk type of safety but he's positioned as a SS who has a major weakness with his inconsistent tackling who struggles with wrapping up. Some will say that it's due to a shoulder injury but I'm not so sure that's the case because the same kind of misses were seen throughout the 2018 campaign as well. He's more of the freak type of athlete due to his overall size and speed.

McKinney has been much more consistent and took it to another level this year. He would be more suited to a SS as he has that intimidation factor of being a big hitter, great anticipation skills, and also has a knack for the ball but not to the same level as Delpit. McKinney may not be as much of a physical specimen as Delpit is but more than makes up for it with all of the intangibles.

At the end of the day it depends on who you want. If we are viewing these both as SS's then do you want one who can make his presence known in both his tackling and the ability to make plays on the ball or do we want one that's more of a physical but can be a liability as a potential run stopper and is more prone to miss his tackles.

For me, if we're looking to fill either of the two in as strong safety, McKinney reminds me a lot of Roy Williams in the early days where he was a big hitter but could also come up with a timely turnover whether through an INT or FF.

McKinney's is going to be an interesting stock to follow. If you looking for versatile SS, then he is a good fit.

Cowboys wont reach for him. Or at least probably wont. I go back to Stephan Jones on Eric Reid after the 2013 draft. We liked Reid, but 19 was too rich

It remains to be seen how Delpit tests out but physically he is rail thin as in petite.

I think people see his inflated measurements on paper and think he’s some big imposing guy like Derwin James, but he’s clearly not.

He reminds a bit of Ha Ha Clinton-Dix except less physical.

Delpit’s tackling is big problem and it predates his shoulder injury this season. He’s a wrap up/lower leg guy which leads to a lot of flailing and broken tackles.

Bama hype machine. This is the weakest safety class in awhile. Mckinney made most of his plays blitzing and in the box......only in the NFL hes not really a on the box type. Id rather Delpit if we insist on drafting an overrated safety

Same could be said for Delpit.

I’d take the overrated safety that can tackle.

McKinney sounds like the type we'd be looking for anyway. If they try to salvage Woods at FS, McKinney seems like the ideal SS for us.

Frankly, while I'd like to see us come out of this first round with a DT or even DE (depending on what happens with Quinn and Bennett), I would be pretty happy if our starting Ss next year were Bama boys with Dix at FS (via FA) and McKinney at SS. I think people crap on Clinton-Dix way too much around here. He's a pretty good safety and he'd be fairly cheap (relative to some other safety contracts we've seen).

Is McKinney more of a Kavon Frazier type? In 2018 Frazier was regarded as a hard hitting box safety that was a liability in coverage. Frazier regressed in 2019 and he was injured. What are we asking our SS to do in Nolan's defense? Will they cover the TE? Run support? Blitzing? Its hard to know which safety would be a good fit without knowing what their role will be.

Top 20ish....I'd love him at #17...Dallas needs DT & S
I think between Kinlaw, Brown, Fotu, Davis, Madueke(forgot how to spell lol)...we can get a DT in the 2-3 ..but S only 1 REAL SS that's McKinney ..

McKinney is a better athlete than Frazier I think, and should be a lot better in coverage.

NFL defenses don't need a box SS like Frazier, McKinney is a much better fit for the NFL, in that respect. I just don't think he has enough upside to be a good first-round pick.

From what I’ve read he supports run and some underneath coverage and blitzes some
Haven’t watch McKinney much but the blitz part seems important to Nolan

Delpit seems to the be the consensus top S but McKinney does seem to have a very solid scouting report. Anxious to see how he tests but I could see him as a riser.

We're in dire need of an upgrade at both safety spots, so I don't care if it's a FS or SS.
