Ours were so obvious the little we called them and they went nowhere.

We definitely couldn't run them effectively. It was very frustrating to watch so many teams run them effectively as a core play.

I had not really picked up on ours as being obvious. Can you tell me what you were seeing that was tipping off the opponent?

If MM does two things I hope that its use the screen more and defend the screen better. Imo that killed us last year.
Couldn't agree more.

Given that we have an athletic and mobile O-Line, a dynamic RB, speedy WRs, and even a TE who can rack up yards after the catch, we should have the perfect personnel for it!!

On the defensive side, with our quickness, we should be blowing up screens. Not sure if they were slow to diagnose, or need a refresher on shedding blocks, but we got eaten alive by the screens this year (especially our LBs).

The screen pass should be a key opportunity for big plays on both sides of the ball.

Hope springs eternal.

And I hope they are not telgraphed and obvious. Timing and deception is apart of it, too. Ours were so obvious the little we called them and they went nowhere.
Not
The screens and passes to the TE were guaranteed for big yards against us.
Screw screen passes - we need more jet sweeps!!!

- we actually use the RB screen pass as a big play weapon effectively well under Scott Linehan (ala zeke's home run TDs vs Steelers, Niners) before it failed miserably and it seemed to
become de-emphasized under Kellen Moore. That will change under MM. And we have the athletic big men and big play RBs to consistently pull it off.
We just did not make the LBs for opposition have to work and labor to have to stop our backs in the pass game.

- as far as the defense's inability to defend screens, that was ridiculous ...and the friction between coaches vs coaches, and players vs coaches (as per whispers from the Star)
certainly wasn't good for communication and discipline causes.
Hopefully Nolan's crew will be far more adept and knowledgeable at spotting and preventing these often screens to RBs and TEs.

I hope the Joneses finally will sell the franchise to an owner who cares more abour winning in sports than making money.

On offense you have to run screens during the game to get proficient at it, we'd try it once and then give up on it.

On defense the line was told to get to the passer at all cost, play the run on the way to qb. That aggressive mindset is very susceptible to screen play.

There are ways to beat any offense and defense. Maybe we get better in those areas and worse in others.

I think the refusal to call screens is a Garrett thing. It's so baffling that a head coach of an NFL team had no clue in calling plays and including the screenplay which even high school and college teams use quite often.

If/Since we’re keeping Dak, we need to scheme around him. He’s the biggest pothole on offense. If they stop Zeke, what can we do? Unless he has another Vikings game like performance, we cannot rely on him to get us out of holes. How can we address this very problem? Will the screen game fix this problem?

Yeah they need work

I don't know why teams didn't just run 30 screens per game against us. They always work. Our d-line just rushes the QB like madmen and they never identify the screen, which then means Jaylon and our secondary need to make a tackle on the open field (and we all know they are terrible at tackling).

The best way to stop a screen is for the DL to stop rushing the passer and cover the RB. Easy tackle for a loss.
