He should go the chiefs if he can. Have a chance to win one. Why bother getting pummeled in NY? The Giants are going to suck for a long time. They really are only in the middle of this suck cycle. Garrett as OC guarantees Jones will regress. It will take Garret 2 seasons to undermine the rookie coach. Then Garrett can coach the Giants into oblivion for years.

Garrett may be the only coach silly enough to give him PT

I can understand his reluctance to walk away from football. He;s been playing the game since he was kid in Pee Wee. It's a major part of his life.
I want him one more year here for the opportunity to the TD receiving record but as many of you have said.only as a third option.

Does he want to be earn a roster spot on an NFL team based on his performance on the field, or be handed one due to relationships and nepotism? Sounds like the latter.
Yup.

Brehs y'all see what's going on here? Witten was planning to retire because he EXPECTED Jerry to hand him a coaching job, if not THE head coaching job (I believe all those reports from Nick Eatman/Ben Rogers about him fighting for the head coach job behind the scenes). Now, I'm guessing McCarthy humbled him - told him he could have a QC position or come back as a player in a secondary role. But that's not how Witten rolls. He's always gotten what he's wanted with this franchise. He feels entitled for more and is taking his ball home and running back to his comfort blanket Garrett. This is the cabal of nepotism that has had a stranglehold on this franchise for a decade and what T.O. was warning us about a long time ago. @WillieBeamen @stilltheguru @The Natural

Or perhaps he doesn't want to learn a whole new offense at this stage in his career. He just wants to play.

yeah it’s a good sign Witt hasn’t gotten a coaching job. He can leave as far as I’m concerned.

I honestly couldn't care less. If he wanted to still play, and the Giants want him, go for it. Who cares?

Some people get way too sentimental about players that don't even know any of us exist.

Man some of our fans can be really hard on our current and previous players. Witten has given his heart and soul for us. I would hate to see him in a Giants uniform. I hope he doesn't choose to do so. No matter what the man deserves our respect for giving the team everything he had.

I don't get this. What did Witten do this season to earn an automatic spot at TE next year and what experience does he have as a coach to have earned that spot?

I love Witten and am thankful for all the great moments he brought but it's time to move on.

Maybe, but Emmitt was clearly washed up even during his last years here. Witten can still get open for firsts, just a matter of playcalling. He won't get the YAC but he'll move the chains.

Witten can contribute but he's no longer the threat he once was. He could be a good No. 2 blocking tight end who gets some passes thrown his way, but he's only a No. 1 now for a team that doesn't have a good young prospect for its top spot.
