Dak clearly does not suck, but he's not a top 5 QB either. So, the question is can you build a good enough TEAM around him and still pay him silly money. If he's Russel Wilson coming into contract negotiations with a super bowl ring, its a different story. The problem we have is that the Eagles just placed a large bet on Wentz and the expectation is that b/c they made that decision, we should as well. But, what if drafting Jake Fromm and putting Dak's 35 million per year into upgrading the defense is a better approach to finally getting the team to the super bowl? Cheap Qbs on rookie contracts worked in Seattle, LA, and Philly. It didn't work in Dallas. So why pay the guy and surround him with less talent?

But the thing is, it's not as easy to get a top 5 QB as fans want to believe. Hell, what most would consider top 5 still includes Brees, who was drafted 19 years ago, and Rodgers, who was drafted 15 years ago. Many would still include Brady even though his production was down this year, and he was drafted 20 years ago. Even Russell Wilson, who you mentioned, was drafted 9 years ago. Mahomes would be considered top 5 by most everyone, but for the most part it's older guys. What this tells us is new "top 5" level QBs aren't routinely coming into the NFL - that they are hard to find.

Those 3 game in which we scored 10 points are less turned out to be exactly what we were warning about. This league leading offense went AWOL when they should have produced in meaningful games. We have to expect better from this "Offensive Juggernaut" that has been way OVER-HYPED.

I'm assuming this is a joke? Offense is at the very bottom of the list in terms of issues with the team. Offensive rankings in 2019:

DVOA: #2
Pts/G: #6
Y/G: #1

Defensive DVOA: #19
Special teams DVOA: #30

If you think that offense is any issue, let alone our biggest issue, then you've got issues.

Let’s hire a new staff then trade away two years of draft picks to replace a QB who may not be top 5 but is much better than a few here think
Then in 3 years when the new guy fails because you traded away all your picks so you can’t field a competitive team

That's a misleading post. Between the coaching staff idiots, complete mismanagement of the kicker (or are you going to blame Dak for that also?) and weather most of those games can be explained. Those aren't all on Dak. Not by any measure.

Spend the draft resources on defense and fix the special teams. Those will improve the starting field position (you know the Cowboys were the worst in the league, right?) and the offense immediately gets better. If anything trade down a couple of spots and pick up an additional 3rd rounder. You DO NOT trade up and deplete your draft picks. The Cowboys need more draft picks not less.

Alot of that's on the defense staying on the field , wrs dropping balls and an inexperienced playcaller. Not all on the QB. If none of the other things change wont matter much who's at qb...???? Sir...didnt think so

If Dakota wasn't pressing for 35-40 million I would agree with you, but the issue is money and your idea of spending the draft resources to build a defense wont get it done without veteran free agent pick ups......and for that FA help we need that money that would be spent on a player not deserving of that cash outlay. I have always believed he can be serviceable but you dont pay serviceable Elite money and hamstring the team. So in summation, Tag, Draft competition for the QB position, buy Free Agents and If Dakota works well in McCarthys system he can still be signed long after the season. The worst case scenario is that we have depth at QB for the future or potential trade bait
