Jerry Jones says not so fast:

Jerry Jones wants Robert Quinn to stay in Dallas

Robert Quinn is a free agent come March, but if the Dallas Cowboys have their way, he may not hit the market. I’m told Jerry Jones has been aggressive in letting Quinn know that he wants the pass rusher to be playing in a Cowboys uniform next year. I’m also told Quinn’s preference is to remain in Dallas. If Dallas makes Quinn a competitive offer, don’t expect him to leave town next season.

This would be a huge deal for Dallas if they could keep Quinn. As my friend OCC reminds us, this is a passing league and disrupting the quarterback is job one of a defense. Nobody did that better for Dallas in 2019 than Robert Quinn. His ultra-quick first step combined with his ability to bend is a fearsome combination.

It’s a tricky time for the Cowboys as they have a ton of talent that needs to be signed. The idea of keeping Quinn seemed unlikely to most observers, but maybe the Cowboys are prioritizing Quinn higher than many thought. No one else on the Cowboys had more than 6.5 sacks, and those came from another free agent who only played part of the season in Dallas, Michael Bennett.

The Cowboys will want a better effort out of their defensive line in 2020. They are bringing in coach Jim Tomsula to get that done. Keeping Quinn in the fold would surely help.

Frustrating how badly Marinelli hurt the Cowboys with his early draft round picks for our Dline the past several years. Wasted and terrible picks. Horrible. Big reason our D continues to struggle and cost the team.

It's quite reasonable for the Cowboys to offer less in contracts, because they offer more outside the contract.
Umm, yeah, the Cowboys offer something much more coveted than money. A chance to be a HotBoy!!!!

I'm shocked all defensive FA's aren't lining up in Jerry's office to get a chance for this once in a lifetime opportunity.

I disagree. They struggled more because of Maranelli. You are gonna miss picks. I need you to coach what you have and he got the best out of undrafted guys who had no hype but that’s about it.

I guess Gregory is done.....?
He will be reinstated if he is clean. But I think JJ isn’t depending on him. If he does come back it will be nice and cheap. Draft sone DT and get Quinn back and our D-Line will be ok.

A lot of players enjoy being associated with and a part of mediocrity, don’t kid yourself.

It still comes down to the all mighty dollar. Quinn is a hired head hunter that follows where the most dollars are offered to him. The same is true for M Bennett at this point in his career. If the FO can make the money right for them, they will be back. These facts tell me both of these will be less of a priority than Jerry is saying right now. Wasn't Stephen the one that set the priority as Dak and then Amari? Byron will most likely be 3rd priority and then maybe Quinn or Bennett. By that time, the big dollar contracts will be thin and other teams will be out bidding what the Cowboys FO is offering.

I kinda like that Bennett got in people's faces, since he was from the outside, he saw the slop in the coaching staff and was certainly outspoken - I like that; perhaps he can be brought back with Quinn - it had to open his eyes that they canned most of the coaches

the DLine must be better

Also depends on how the contracts are set up. Save money on the big contracts now and be in cap hell in a few years or restructure and keep kicking the can down the road. The people that handle our salary cap will be working OT. But after the new CBA the cap will go way up.

You keep Quinn then sign one above avg DT and draft kinlaw
Bring back woods and maybe another mid level DT or late pick
Get a CB, safety and maybe another LB later in draft
Keep one of our FA CB
Find a kicker and a punter
You might just have a competitive team that can push for the playoffs
But you got to hit on a couple day one starter quality players and a couple who can contribute
No red shirts in this draft
Pushing for the playoffs isnt going to be the issue. We need to get deep in the playoffs

Armstrong played 25% of snaps, 2 sacks.
Quinn played 60% of snaps, 10.5 sacks. And in only 14 games.

I don't see that there's that much progress in Armstrong that we're stopping, and Quinn looks more than worth it. He was one of the most productive DEs in the league per snap, while being one of the most double teamed.

It does seem unlike the Cowboys to sign Quinn in the free agent market. With all this money Jerry is spending, he's either desperate or expects a big bump to the cap with the next CBA.
He was messing around.

Although I do think Armstrong is decent #4 DE type
