this was in August, apparently it didn't play out this way throughout the season.
Yeaaaaa....no. Dak the next offseason:

"And I think Tony did a great job, and I commend Tony and thank him so much for that -- of being another coach for me, of helping me out, of in the middle of the game, at practice, on the field [and] off the field, giving me advice."
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...prescott-tony-romo-did-amazing-job-helping-me

There were dozens of clips of them going over things on the sidelines.

of course you want the more " experienced " and improved Dak.

- the 2016 version took the world by storm as a rookie, with the way he commanded the huddle, had incredible calmness and composure, made plays in the pass game, impressed and endeared himself among the entire organization, from fellow teammates, coaches and management in his rookie debut. Such at a level that he not only subbed so brilliantly for an injured Romo,.. Dak was the leading reason why Romo was forced to retire into the sunset. Also in the dynamics was Dak was a 4th round pick, that was more thought of as a capable backup draftee, after the Cowboys were hoping more for the likes of Payton Lynch or Conner Cook. Both that ended up as failed prospects.

- this past 2019, several thought so less of Dak with his problematic throwing mechanics and accuracy that they gave up on him. Thought he'd never be any better of a passer before the 2019 season proved differently. to add to the accuracy issues, Dak gained the propensity to hold onto the ball in the pocket that led to one of the highest sacks allowed total in Cowboys history. Some can be blamed on the OL, but a number of that was on Dak holding the ball in the pocket.
but towards the last 3 games of the season, that significantly changed as he began to process reads faster and starting getting the ball out of his throwing hand a more quicker. Instead of holding the ball for a last minute opening, he used his scrambling, improvising run skills to escape pressure and make plays up field.

- also thanks to coaches such as Moore, Kitna and Nussemeier, Dak throwing accuracy improved greatly, he continued getting ball out more quickly, he pushed the ball downfield for much more "chunk" yardage, a career high in yards per attempt, ..and end up being one of the leagues best at that. Dak's improvement help lead Cowboys as No.1 offense in total yardage.
You take this 2019 Dak, , because Dak as he's improved as a pure passer, improved as a thinking QB and it's later part of his overall game experience, imo.

Fart noises.

The garbage time thing is a total fabrication. They were 16th in pass attempts down by 10 or more.
It's not garbage time it's asterisk stats and it is real. they just do not put the asterisk by it. Be honest yes Dak had a good year but all this great year #1 is just hot air inflated by stats because of his failure to produce in the first 3 quarters. Say or believe what ever you like but Dak being #1 and the Cowboys being #1 offense is just stats nothing more and all those stats mean is it was a struggle to 8-8, sorry maybe it really is garbage time offensive stats.

Dak only had gaudier stats because he was asked to throw way more. His completion % was down from 2016 because in part he threw 150 more times, he had 5 GW drives and 5 4th Quarter Comebacks his rookie year and couldn’t muster 1 this year. Not to mention he threw nearly 3 times as many interceptions in 2019.

QB rating went down, total QBR went down, but he did have a lot of yards I guess because he was throwing a lot from behind in all the blowouts.
I know that you are a e-girls fan but I find myself agreeing with you very frequently.

I'm going to respond to this again because of just how naive it is.

This comp% was down b/c his depth of target went up, and the team led the league with 35+ drops.
3 times as many INTs is a) a really cute way of grossly exaggerating it and b)completely ignorant of the fact that two INTs were on Hail Marys and at least 3 were dropped passes.

Not garbage time:

Honestly don't talk about Dallas you don't know what you're talking about.

If we could pay Dak $2,000 for the 2020 season, would you want him then?

Its been documented that the mentor was Mark Sanchez and not Romo.
The desire of people to pump Romo up at every turn is amazing. Romo was pouting on the bench for crying out loud. He even mentioned during an in game interview that 2015 was much easier to deal with on the sidelines than 2016 was. In 2015, he felt like he was needed but in 2016 he knew he wasn’t and it was hard to sit on the sidelines watching it unfold and not really being part of it.

Sanchez was Romo’s mentor and I had thought it was pretty well known, but some people continue trying to give credit to Romo. Funny thing is, Dak’s play seemed to dip late in the season when Romo was actually the back up QB forced to be more engaged.

Why are you so focused on his yardage? You realize all those yards led to ZERO comeback victories right? The fact is, the Cowboys beat up on bad teams and lost to all the good teams. Dak was outperformed by opposing QBs in all those games. They had a chance to win in the fourth quarter in almost all of them and he failed every time. He wasn't good when he was needed most.

2016 offensive line + 2019 Dak.

Not picking a fight

But that first part is ridiculous

Dak threw for nearly 5k and Zeke/pollard ran more for a combined 1500

The line was excellent and I would argue a little bit better considering Collins has improved

Personally I liked Daks ability to run in 2016 than his ability to throw downfield in 2019. I know that’s partially due to contract issues but a nice balance of the two would be fantastic

nevertheless, which do you prefer?

Dak 2016. The instinct he had. Back then I believed he had the potential to be better than Romo. It was his best chance to win a superbowl since he was an unknown and back then teams didn't have an answer for him. He still has a lot of potential, but back then people were comparing him to all time greats in what he was accomplishing in his season. Now people are more skeptical when they hear such comparisons.

silly question. Dak in 2019 was much much better. Not even close.

Simple answer, if we had Dak 2019 in the 2016 team we would have won the SB... Come to think about it, we kind of had a better version of him in Tony Romo.
Nope. 2016 still had Garrett and a mediocre defense.

Dak in his best games of 2019 were worlds better than 2016. Unfortunately, those were largely against really bad teams. He played some real stinkers against good teams in 2019. While I don't think that individual players frequently are solely responsible for wins and losses, Dak contributed a lot to a bunch of the losses. Reading through the game log is painful.

You also can't point to any games where Dak either carried the team to victory or put up huge numbers in a loss. Either the team completely dominated in all phases . . . or they lost. Dak fans won't like to hear this but a lot of Dak's performance depended on the defense being played. Against prevent, he put up big numbers. When Dallas had the lead and was running the ball, Dak put up big numbers. When the game was close and teams were playing their primary defense, Dak fell on his face. That's not good.

Dak is capable of putting up big numbers but I always said that if Dak threw for 5k we would be a 500 or below team. I felt this way more of because of JG's lack of success without a running game. With MM I think we can win with Dak throwing for nearly 5k but I do not think that is what will be required of Dak moving forward. So give me 2016 Dak.
