Robert Conrad, the actor best known for his role in the television show The Wild Wild West, died today in Malibu, Calif. of heart failure. He was 84 and his death was announced by a family spokesman.

Born in Chicago, Illinois on March 1, 1935, Conrad moved to Los Angeles in 1958 and found almost instant success, booking a recurring role on the TV show Hawaiian Eye in 1959.

After Hawaiian Eye, he scored his signature role, that of Secret Service agent James West in The Wild Wild West. The show ran from 1965 to 1969, but became an even bigger hit in syndication. The premise followed West and sidekick Artemus Gordon as the country’s first Secret Service agents, taking on the super villains of the era during the Ulysses S. Grant administration.

Always liked the Wild Wild West as well as to a lesser degree Ba Ba Black Sheep. He was a real mans man.

My favorite moment with him was on Battle of the Network Stars, when they put a battery on his shoulder and Lou Ferrigno swiped it off like it was a leave or something.

I used to love the Wild, Wild West. The exchanges between West and Gordon were great. It was tragic what they did with that horrible movie, starring Will Smith....and I like Smith!

heh, if he went to school with me. Half the school would have knocked that battery off his shoulder. That man just isn't very intimidating hah.

Loved the show, but didn't hate the movie. It took me a watch or two to accept it because of how different it was. Today, I really don't have a problem with it though.

It's clearly not as well done as the Maverick movie though.
