Only reason Zeke is average is due to his contract. Definitely most overrated rb in the league.

The mediocre D, the ST and the coaching things were huge.

It is like people are conditioned to look at the QB and to a lesser degree RB position and ignore the rest.
Zeke needs to come into camp in shape and no more than 225 and better at 220.

Why are we paying an average RB to be the highest paid RB in the NFL? 8-8 proves that Zeke is average. Stats dont count, only wins.

How many teams have won SB's paying a QB to be the highest paid RB in the NFL? NONE

it does burn me up how much we paying Zeke and it burns me up how much we paying Tank...they both regressed after getting the big money

It only angers me the way the players and there agents went after it. If JJ paid them that money then we would all agree he over paid. But holding a team hostage over it. Staying in Cabo 2 years early and coming in out of football shape. And holding off your own shoulder surgery and coming in not fully healed. Makes me mad. No way D-Law was healed. I had rotator cuff surgery 2 months ago. It’s 3 months before you can even start doing anything other than some light band work. 6 months before the area has fully healed to the bone.

If he didn't have to sit six games he would have been the first rookie to lead the league in rushing 3 years in a row.. Yeah that's pretty average.

I mean, look. Zeke is obviously very good.

Here's the thing. Murray was a generic mid-round pick who became great as we built a great o-line.

Then Murray left and we replaced him with a guy off the streets who no one really wanted. He was coming off 3 straight years of averaging in the *low* 3's (not even the high 3's, the low 3's... 3.3, 3.3, 3.4 yards per carry in his previous 3 seasons). And in our system with our o-line, he was the 4th leading rusher in the NFL in 2015. Despite Romo missing most of the year and Dez missing time too. So defenses had no one but the RB to worry about and he still finished 4th in the league in rushing.

When your o-line and running game are that user-proof, do you have to spend a 4th overall pick on a RB (bearing in mind what era of football we're in) and then give that RB a massive extension? No.

Zeke would have to do borderline impossible things to justify this use of resources. Good as he is, he's unlikely to ever justify those resources. Not when we know a generic mid-rounder or bum off the street could walk in and give us production.

Oh well.

What else do you expect from Zeke on the field?
As I said, justifying the resources would be borderline impossible. He's very productive. He's typically among the league leaders if not the actual league leader. He's doing as much as you can hope a RB does for you in this day and age.

I'm not sure what we could reasonably expect beyond that.

Maybe somebody might chime in and say they want him to crack 2,000 yards in a season or run for 25 TDs. Which, I mean, okay. He hasn't hit the ceiling of what is technically possible for an all-time great RB to achieve. But do I necessarily want him to run for 2000 yards and 25 TDs next season? I think those numbers would only be possible if we turn the passing game into an afterthought. And, that kind of workload would very likely ruin him, so now that we've handcuffed ourselves to him for the long-term, running him into the dirt next season feels like an unwise move.

Murray's big final season here where he approached 400 carries and 2000 yards was followed up by him being a shell of himself the next season. He rebounded slightly the year after that, but his career was over 3 years after that one final year when we rode him into the dirt. He was retired before he even aged out of his twenties. I'd have been all for riding Zeke into the dirt before we gave him the extension. Now that we have, giving him a potentially career-crippling workload seems unwise. So I can't even ask Zeke to post a big increase in his stats.

I suppose someone could say they want him to kick his game up a notch and just strap the team on his back and turn into a monster in the playoffs one of these years. That would be nice. Though he's already averaging more rushing yards per game in the playoffs than he averages per game in the regular season so far in his career, and I don't think he's fumbled or anything like that. So I think he's showed up and played fine. He just hasn't had the Marshawn Lynch refusing-to-be-tackled kind of standout performance. Though that's such an infrequent thing, I'm not sure how realistic it is to demand that.

One thing to note here is that Murray wasn’t a shell of himself in Philly because he was ran into the ground. He was in the wrong system. Murray left Dallas and actually regained his breakaway speed.

This is right. When DMAC can get you 4.6 ypc, be a 1,000 yard rusher while not being the starter the entire year, have Cassel and Moore as the primary QBs you’ve played behind, and have a missing or injured Dez Bryant who didn’t attract defensive attention, 4.6 YPC should be the absolute minimum we should expect from Zeke in a bad year.
