I tend to agree with the poster who said Dak is sort of missing the boat. If Dak had signed for $33 Million per year average this year that would have been about $30m more than he made this year.

Over the life of say a 5 year contract he is going to have to make up $6m more per year than he did just to break even.

Its hard to estimate how much he lost. It literally depends on the signing bonus being offered. Wentz got 16 million but he also had 2 years left on his rookie deal. Russell Wilson got a 65 million dollar signing bonus. So its not hard to imagine Dak's agent wanting something around 40 million in signing bonus money. But, you also have to factor in that the sooner he signs, the faster he get to his next contract. Time is money in the NFL with their short careers. So, unless Dak's new contract is going to somehow compensate for what he lost last year, 30 million might be a conservative estimate over the course of his career.
No he wouldn't a contract any faster because he will be the same agr either way when the contract runs out. If he signed a four year extention before the season started it wouldn't have kicked in till the 2020 league year. If he signs right now the new contract will still begin in 2020. That being said it does depend on the signing bonus. I just used the $20 million figure because that's what you said. I also assumed a return on investment of 10%. But either way the only think Dak missed on was possible interest from his signing bonus.

Depends on the length of the agreement being offered now as opposed to last summer. We don't know which makes estimating his lost wages tough.

They were not going to tear up the old contract. When they said 33M per year, they meant it in the same vein as they meant Wentz got 32M and that is in the form of an extension. The only thing he did by waiting is delay his getting the signing bonus from last year to this year which if he signs a contract he will get either way once signs. Basically he lost out on nothing and probably gained a couple million per year by waiting which is why the agent had him do that.

Doubtful.

The length of the agreement likely means a higher signing bonus but also locks you in at a lower salary right before the pay scale is likely to increase exponentially with the new cba. That is why Dak is advocating for 4 years while the Cowboys want 7.

A well coached team gets them to the Superbowl. Niners were nothing and Sha-na-na Jr. took them to the big dance w/Brady's backup in just 3 years being a first time head coach. o_O
and McVay did something similar..... and the very next year missed the playoffs. Big deal, this happens ALL THE TIME. Weent the Falcons in the SB a few years back....... didnt they have a nice new coach? Where they been since then?

Certainty. Teams do not just tear up contracts that are grossly in their favor. No team signing their QB is tearing up the rookie deal, not even sure if the NFL allows it but I assume they COULD, because it was be beyond idiotic. It makes no logical sense for either side for that and what makes more sense is that it is the exact same thing that every other rookie QB deal is doing which is an extension to the rookie deal. Maybe you could argue that the Cowboys were completely willing to do the current equivalent of pay 40m per year (which btw is the cap ramifications of what you think is "likely" would mean) but to me that makes zero sense and just seems rather silly to be honest because if that is the amount they were willing to eat into their cap before then the deal would already be done because its grossly more than what Russel Wilson gets.

Oh, c'mon, don't do that polarizing declaration crapp. That is what makes no logical sense.

There is a good chance Dak has lost income by not agreeing to the offered deal(or something close to that). No need to declare that he didn't. It's up for question, not even close to a certainty.

Will he get more than 33m per year when he signs his contract? That is a certainty so the only way he lost income is if somehow the Cowboys for some unknown reason did something unprecedented and offered to tear up the current contract and start paying him 33m year 1 (which considering the offer was likely made to counter Wentz offer which was an extension) makes no sense. Doing that right now would be the equivalent of paying him 39m over the next 4 years which considering that is about 15% more than Wilsons number I would see no reason that would not be accepted instantly but I also see no reason the Cowboys would have offered that at that point in time.

So basically its a near certainty that the 33m per year offer was an extension and that he will end up with more than that when he signs his deal.

Let's tell this like it really is. Dak did not turn down a $33 mill/yr deal. His agent is not entertaining offers for Dak until they tag him in March. The reply from the agent to the Cowboys front office was more like, "not now" and the Cowboys FO took that as a "no" and let that get to the media that is reporting this.

He has certainly lost income in your mind but that doesn't matter. In reality, Dak is just as coveted by the Cowboys FO as he was a year ago. He has not lost any money by his agent not agreeing to a long-term deal. Your "logical sense" is not logical at all. It takes both sides to agree to a deal before it can be signed and thus far those conditions have never existed. Look for that to change after the Cowboys franchise him.

Disagree.

Players only have so many years. To play for a couple mil when you could play for 30 mil means you lost 28 mil. Unless he can truly sign a contract paying him around 40 mil/season, he's lost that money forever. Not understanding why that isn't logical.

I don't care if he turned it down, that's just what is being reported. Offered 33 million a season and refused. Asked for more instead.
I thought his issue was with the length of the contract. He wanted something like 3 years while the FO wanted 6 or 7.

Noted

He can't lose money he never had.
