Not good enough for starter money anymore.
Not sure if he would want to be a back up, He already moved his family to Florida, nor sure if he would want to move again, try to get on in a team in Florida or retire.

Just because he's not the same player he used to be doesn't mean he's backup material now. On certain teams, yes. But there are teams that have worse starting QBs now. He'd of course probably not get a huge contract.

At some point everyone on Earth will have genetic material tracing back to Philip Rivers.

They are just pre-repopulating the earth just in case there is a nuclear apocalypse.

Guess because it don't matter what he's called, he's not Mr Touchdown!.
He was 4th in the NFL in TD passes, and added 3 more rushing. Admittedly, there were some slow 1st halves that could have used more scoring.

I think Rivers would be great, but I worry about his arm holding out.
He's picked up some bad habits, too. He tries to do too much and throws picks.
He is a baller, though, and would do well with a good team if his arm holds out.

so he'd be a solid vet backup in other words ? .....

4th in TDs is cool for those blinded by stats, but doesn't win games. Brady had 4600 yards and only 24 TDs. Guess who went to the playoffs?

through his bulk of his career, he never had enough of a support group to exceed towards making it to the SB. Too many people act like it's boxing and it's a solo sport.
His defenses sucked,.. his HC's suxed. ..his OL suxed . even with Melvin Gordon, they always counted too much on Rivers and not enough in other areas,
.and his game really went downward the last two years ..... and you can only get so far off just chugging it to Gates, Allen, etc for so long.
They cut the Marty schottenheimer loose. The man played the 07 afc championship game on a torn acl.

You said he wasn't "Mr. Touchdown", and touchdowns are a stat. You seem to be big on stats when you think they suit you, but say stats don't matter when you find they don't.

In any case, obviously the team needs to win more than in 2019, and more in the postseason when it gets there. That's not all on the QB though. Overall Dak has won 62.5% of his starts (10 wins per season), made the playoffs 2 out of 4 years, and has played well in the playoffs, averaging 265 passing yards, 2.3 TDs (5 passing, 2 rushing), and a strong passer rating.

Even though I think it is foolish, at least I can see the reason behind wanting to bring in Tom Brady. He was pretty successful at winning in his career.

Phillip Rivers? His legacy will most likely boil down to one of those trivia questions like: "Who was the QB that the Chargers kept while allowing Drew Brees to walk away in Free Agency?"

I don't think you understand what you think you said. You certainly don't mean what you are saying and let's be real, YOU are the one who questioned the dink and dunk. Basically you went on the offense to defend a guy who can't win when a game is handed to him, if he only does his job minimally. Stats have a purpose as long as they are used in context. Yards don't win games, TDs do. So there is a real correlation between TDs in a game and the team winning.

And now you want to continue with the whitewash trying to get someone to disprove your points. What good is 30TDs at the end of the year if you finish 8-8 and out of the play-offs?

If you have a point to make, I'm listening.

We need to do the same with Witten. It's so hard for this FO to let go....

How was he "released" when he's already a free agent?

NO player is a free agent until March 18 or as of Feb 3 when teams can officially release a player still under contract. Just because a player will BECOME a free agent doesn't mean he is right now, unless he is released by his team.
