Although we have new couching staff that seems like a good thing. All the Cowboy free agents and the price tag for Dak, Copper, etc seems to be a bad thing for any run at the playoffs this year. Who has a crystal ball that can tell us fans how we are going to be better than 8-8?

The offseason needs for every NFL team

Seth Trachtman
Dallas Cowboys: DL, DB, WR
No team has more significant free agent decisions than the Cowboys, with Dak Prescott, Amari Cooper and Byron Jones all looking at big paydays. Dallas might not be able to afford the latter, making both cornerback and safety areas to address. This is all before considering that pass rushers Robert Quinn and Michael Bennett are free agents. Randall Cobb did a fair job replacing Cole Beasley in the slot for the Cowboys, but he's also on the open market.

Draft defense in the draft. I don't see bad in that.

Well, I think we will be better this year with a new coach. I also see where we have a relatively easy schedule compared to others. Also, if we can pick up a good safety in the draft that will obviously help. We will get Dak and Cooper signed no problem. 2020-11-5

Funny how some people confuse their own lack of knowledge of the inner workings of a professional football team for something that is germane. to the reality of what the Cowboys are doing. Free agents will get signed or tagged including Dak, Coop, etc. For the less knowledgeable such as yourself, a crystal ball is perhaps the only way you will ever know anything. Others of us know 8-8 is a low bar to clear. It will get done with ease.

We drafted defense last year. We got that stud DT that was tearing up the practice squad, or IR, all year. I believe his name is......

Yeah draft defense and I think we can do better than 8-8 and make a run for the playoffs.

Let them all hit the bricks. After the crap show l saw last year, none of them deserve to wear a Star anyway...

Is this a serious thread?

New coaching staff "seems like a good thing"?

The Cowboys went 8-8 under Garrett last year. Just addressing the kicker issue alone would have won them at least 2 more games. Remember worst special teams in the league? So yes they will be better than 8-8 next year.

We have FA and draft. We have good money. We can sign Dak and Cooper and still have money left. When they do these contracts they always front end load them so they don’t all come out of our current money. Players we will be cutting will also save money. And the cap will rise next year and after the CBA I think we will be pleasantly surprised at the new cap space.

Way I see it we are retaining Dak and Cooper. Could be a long term deal, or via tag(s).
Next on the list is Quinn and Jones, who I think they will lose to FA.
Both will hurt, but it's just the name of the game. I don't think either will be lost to a deal we would of been begging to match.

After those 4, none of the remaining free agents I feel are big difference makers. Some play their role well, but aren't cogs.

It's too early to be talking records in Feb. Still got FA, the draft and well time to see how MM does with this team.

The biggest change this year is the changing of the Head coach and various assistant coaches. This team has talent, but IMO wasn't used properly at times.

It all depends on how aggressive we approach free agency and hitting on the draft. Looks like the new coaching staff has an idea on what they want to do. DT Hill has to get stronger and flash some of his potential.

We'll be better than 8-8 simply by not having Garrett in the way.

Why is everyone afraid of the team spending money? Some players will be considered overpaid but you can't meet the salary cap floor with nothing but team friendly, vet minimum, incentive based, prove-it deals and/or rookie contracts. Letting all the top talent on the team walk because they want top dollar is also a recipe for disaster. A team full of Jeff Heaths is not going to win you anything.

We should be Super Bowl bound. I keep hearing we have one of the most “talented” rosters in the league, I’m just waiting to see who they’re talking about.

DAL has among the most FA starters to re-sign but also has among the most CAP cash to do so.
They have an insane amount and can sign everyone if they see fit to leverage future years. --they likely won't.

Guys like Witten and Lee probably need to move on. They are progress stoppers.

But a fresh new staff brings a ton of experience in roster evaluation and development to add to a talent laden roster. They know veteran players and they know practice squad guys. They will help produce bodies.

Make no mistake, DAL was easily the most talented roster that missed the playoffs. The utter refusal to address ST until so very late is the easiest reason but you can add in some bad luck and a defensive scheme that grew insanely simplistic.
