Although we have new couching staff that seems like a good thing. All the Cowboy free agents and the price tag for Dak, Copper, etc seems to be a bad thing for any run at the playoffs this year. Who has a crystal ball that can tell us fans how we are going to be better than 8-8?
I agree, times will be tough if our staff is couching. They need to get off the couch and start coaching!

start drafting real good and stop trading away draft picks (thank god the jamal adams trade did not happen). if u draft well success is sustainable even paying dak, amari, etc.

Why is everyone afraid of the team spending money? Some players will be considered overpaid but you can't meet the salary cap floor with nothing but team friendly, vet minimum, incentive based, prove-it deals and/or rookie contracts. Letting all the top talent on the team walk because they want top dollar is also a recipe for disaster. A team full of Jeff Heaths is not going to win you anything.

:clap::clap:still think it's personal for some fans.

if special teams were fixed we would've made the playoffs. but it stunk. We fix that, and we can compensate with a slightly worse defense.

Well, I think we will be better this year with a new coach. I also see where we have a relatively easy schedule compared to others. Also, if we can pick up a good safety in the draft that will obviously help. We will get Dak and Cooper signed no problem. 2020-11-5
How do we know we have an “easy schedule”? Is there really such a thing as an easy schedule in the NFL? How can we judge any 2020 NFL team two months before the draft and a month before FA starts? That’s crazy. Did anyone here think the niners would be a tough opponent in Feb of 2019?

We should be Super Bowl bound. I keep hearing we have one of the most “talented” rosters in the league, I’m just waiting to see who they’re talking about.
We had a talented roster last year
Don’t have a clue about this year
You could lose some talented guys
But the whole key is draft well
We need to hit big on 2-3 guys in this draft
Every year you have turn over that you have to deal with
Ours seems huge because of so many starters but that’s the way the league works
You just got to draft consistently well

The good thing is, our nucleus is pretty set. Likely Dak + Coop, Zeke, Smith, Martin, Collins, Frederick, Collins, Tank, LVE, Smith.

Only really talented guys I see us losing are Jones and Quinn. The rest I see as replaceable with free agents and or drafting well. I'm still convinced if we sign a massive DT, we can get by with a lesser DE.

If I'm Dallas, I re-sign who I can. Sign a solid DT (Brockers or somebody similar), a decent CB (who won't break the bank) then attack the rest through drafting.

The offensive and defensive staff is about the same as we had under Garrett. The only difference is ST coach Fassell will boost an anemic ST that should help us win a couple games. The roster as a whole probably takes a step back in regards to the amount of overall talent. Optimists will see all the good changes and pessimists will point to all the negative but both groups will still be watching as someone else wins our division. i'm sure some will still blame garrett, witten and heath.

We have a casting couch for making the team? My, have times changed. And when did Terrance Copper un-retire? I'm so out of the loop.

With FA now, yes, you never know from year to year how easy or hard a schedule will be. As teams can do a complete change from year to year.
Unless you play in the AFCE and cheat.

Anyway it gives the pundits and fans something to talk about. Just like every year there will be those, and the same ones year to year talk about a 1st place vs. last place schedule. When it fact it is only 2 games different from each team in their respective divisions.
Like this year we play the Falcons and Vikings and the Eagles play the Packers and Saints. So is it that much easier? No, not really, well except the Falcons, but are they as or will be as bad as they seem, come next season?

To me it makes it harder for a team the way the schedule is laid out. And Dallas always seems to get the worse of it from year to year. Now a few years or so ago it was laid out pretty decent, not great. but better than it was. But then they reverted back to not being so kind. Dallas always get more road games than home games to finish a season for the last 5 or 6 games, so it seems. I would like to see a reversal of that for a few years.

I wouldn't say troublesome times ahead, unknown times. Projecting anything at this stage is fruitless, don't know what the roster will be yet but I am optimistic because I think they upgraded the coaching staff.

I wouldn't even guess at the team's record this season at this time. But I have no reason to be pessimistic about it or even concerned.

Funny how some people confuse their own lack of knowledge of the inner workings of a professional football team for something that is germane. to the reality of what the Cowboys are doing. Free agents will get signed or tagged including Dak, Coop, etc. For the less knowledgeable such as yourself, a crystal ball is perhaps the only way you will ever know anything. Others of us know 8-8 is a low bar to clear. It will get done with ease.

So if I am reading your post right, you also knew that we would be 8-8 in 2019?

I knew the defense and coaching was bad enough for this team to go 8-8. Dak is not the problem on this team. Fix the defense and coaching and then watch Dak and his #1 ranked offense led us to a Super Bowl.

The offseason needs for every NFL team

Seth Trachtman
Dallas Cowboys: DL, DB, WR
No team has more significant free agent decisions than the Cowboys, with Dak Prescott, Amari Cooper and Byron Jones all looking at big paydays. Dallas might not be able to afford the latter, making both cornerback and safety areas to address. This is all before considering that pass rushers Robert Quinn and Michael Bennett are free agents. Randall Cobb did a fair job replacing Cole Beasley in the slot for the Cowboys, but he's also on the open market.

Absolutely no reason to give Byron a big payday. Not worth it in the least. Go find a cheap free agent or someone in the draft. He does nothing well at all to deserve a big payday. And anyways, go strengthen the DL and safeties and you will see the corner play improve. Quit ignoring DT and safety.

Guys like Sherman, who aren't that fast, etc... do everything purely by intelligence. Knowing where to be...
Guys like Jones, do it on pure athleticism.

The fact that he isn't the greatest at being ready, and has to make it up with his athletic ability, is probably a large part in why he doesn't get INTs.

Meeting in the middle between a cerebral Sherman type, and an athletic Jones type, would be the greatest thing. But, I don't know how many of those we will find.

I hope you are right, although using the YPG which is what we base Dallas' number 1 offense ranking on, our defense is a very respectable #8.
If we go with scoring, the offense drops to #6 and the defense drops to #10.

There are way too many factors that affect scoring. Field position, TO's, D scoring, O allowing scores. Every yard allowed using YPG is attributable to the O/D.

Those of us who remember the dismantling of the '95 team in the following years primarily due to the salary cap are still afraid of repeating that. We may be worrying for nothing as many say, but that horrible time period still lingers in my memory.
