Although we have new couching staff that seems like a good thing. All the Cowboy free agents and the price tag for Dak, Copper, etc seems to be a bad thing for any run at the playoffs this year. Who has a crystal ball that can tell us fans how we are going to be better than 8-8?

I think this team has been under coached for more than a decade. Having a competent coaching staff is going to make a major difference. So there's that. The issue in Dallas is culture and a terrible front office. These clowns truly believe they are on the cutting edge and among the smartest in the league. They have a ton of contract decisions to make. The recent drafts have been terrible and has really hurt the defense with early wiffs on Charlton, Hill, and Williams. FA has yielded next to nothing. The defense needs to re tool the DL - tough to do in 1 year. The secondary also needs a re tool - also tough to do in one year. LB is a mystery with 2 lead guys that can't be counted on. The drafting has really hurt them at all 3 levels. I think they need to grab a DT, S, and CB early. Build quality depth at LB. They might need to hit on more than 1 DT. Gregory coming back can also REALLY help. TE needs a new starter. Thankfully they are set at OL. I think McGovern is going to be a steal.

The biggest issue of all...QB. Again the stupidity of the FO has left a giant question mark at the most important position.

In sum - Dallas needs a lot on D and needs to address the QB issue. They do this well and I think this team contends next season. If Jerry and Co continue to be the idiots they have been for 25 years this thing could devolve into another 3 year rebuild.

I am 60/40 it is going to be ok.

We drafted defense last year. We got that stud DT that was tearing up the practice squad, or IR, all year. I believe his name is......

Yeah draft defense and I think we can do better than 8-8 and make a run for the playoffs.

Hill was drafted as a project. We can draft CB, S, DT, with our early pics. I think we also have 2 fourth rounders.

If we have a new couching staff, then troublesome times are indeed ahead.

Look where that got Harvey Weinstein...

Is this a serious thread?

New coaching staff "seems like a good thing"?

The Cowboys went 8-8 under Garrett last year. Just addressing the kicker issue alone would have won them at least 2 more games. Remember worst special teams in the league? So yes they will be better than 8-8 next year.
I'll agree-yes a new coaching staff is a good thing

Those of us who remember the dismantling of the '95 team in the following years primarily due to the salary cap are still afraid of repeating that. We may be worrying for nothing as many say, but that horrible time period still lingers in my memory.
There has to be some sort of happy medium. Fans have gotten to the point where they have analysis paralysis on every contract that is up for renewal.

There are way too many factors that affect scoring. Field position, TO's, D scoring, O allowing scores. Every yard allowed using YPG is attributable to the O/D.

Exactly. If that is the case and we have a legitimate #8 defense, that should be good enough to win some playoff games when you add in the #1 offense.

Why go through this until we know who is on the roster?

Will Hill get any playing time this year? I don't know anything about him besides the only time I heard his name was on draft day.

Yes and no. Problem is, we have a D set up that is good at TFL. However, we also have a D that is prone to being gashed and has major problems stopping teams in the 4th. That's why the average looks good, but our D isn't all that good.

I get what your saying, but this is the problem with stats. I don't believe that either of our units were as good as their rankings.

Are you seriously writing off the season in February? Just doom and gloom here on out? Should I even watch the draft? No hope? :banghead::angry::flagwave:

We should be Super Bowl bound. I keep hearing we have one of the most “talented” rosters in the league, I’m just waiting to see who they’re talking about.
Cowboys hype drives up NFL revenue. They say the SOS every year!

Draft defense in the draft. I don't see bad in that.
Defense is needed, but there was several games where the defense held opposing offenses to low scores and the Cowboy offense could not score TDs or score at all.

We had a talented roster last year
Don’t have a clue about this year
You could lose some talented guys
But the whole key is draft well
We need to hit big on 2-3 guys in this draft
Every year you have turn over that you have to deal with
Ours seems huge because of so many starters but that’s the way the league works
You just got to draft consistently well
Other then a few key positions (O line) our roster has been extremely over rated. It’s almost as if a lot of fans don’t watch any other teams, if they did they would know our roster “ain’t all that”.
