He could refuse to sign it a la Clowney in the short term while working out a long term deal.
Especially if he doesn't want to go to Cinncy lol

Cowboys get the cap hit hold while being unable to trade him.

+1 ...some fans don't realize how much leverage the franchise tag gives players if a team plans on trading him.

oh lord. really?

picking the SURE FIRE qb isn't that easy. mahomes wasn't even the 1st qb taken. would you trade all that for just as good a shot at trubinsky?

ryan leaf?
jamarcus russell?
joey harrington?
matt leinart?
brady quinn?
christian ponder?
vince young?
sanchez?
leftwich?
d carr?
tim couch?

the list of 1st round or 1st overall bust picks is impressive. dak isn't a world beater no, but he's a damn sight better than every qb listed above and you're wanting to let that go AND 2 rounders just so you can roll the dice again?

i don't see the value there.
If reports are true that Dak is asking for 40 million, I'd personally do it. And as far as drafting QBs, you can't be afraid of drafting a bust. Trust your scouting and FO personnel.

Keep an eye on the Lions at the 3rd spot.......IF this true, I think it has just as much to do teams wanting Chase Young as Burrow. My guess they're not willing to trade out of top 5.......this way they could pick up an extra 1st or more and still have shot at either Burrow OR Tua. It's why I've saying Young to Skins isn't a slam dunk at all.....

That's an interesting theory, the Lions coming up for Young.

But I'd honestly be shocked if that's how it played out and a team paid that sort of a price to move up to #1 for a defensive end in this year of quarterbacks. I have to think that if the Bengals don't take him there, Burrow is still going #1 overall.

That would be depressing for a young athlete that's most likely going to be the #1 pick......knowing your entire career is over before it even gets started......THEN.......if that ain't bad enough you have live in Cincinnati half the year..........if I had been a pro athlete location would play a big role in my decision.

If it's true, it shows a real issue for the NFL to deal with. A franchise being so poorly run that college players are staging a mutiny and refusing to work there because they know it's a mess. So even with the draft structure and salary cap trying to level the playing field, a cheap, idiot owner like Mike Brown can undermine all of that and render a franchise non-competitive anyway. I seem to recall another Ohio team's owner being forced out, maybe history will repeat itself? Nah, highly unlikely, especially given the name and family tradition.

Agree but Lions only have to go 2 spots but IMO this all about the Bengals seeing how bad the Skins want Young.
BTW....until we actually hear Burrow say he doesn't wanna play for the Bengals, I'm not buying. Just think it's just as much about Young as QB also, coz they know they're getting Burrow or Tua, especially since they've already moved on from Dalton.

Yeah.. I'd call his bluff. He's not going to sit out a year and lose 30 million dollars.

No, he can sign it at any time, but it could be way after the draft and Cinncy took Burrows or traded the pick to someone else

It's not about the spots, it's about what Cincinnati can get for themselves out of the deal. Miami has tons of ammo and they're only down at #5. It's a safe bet for me that they can and would pay more for the quarterback they covet than the Lions would for a DE.

Don't expect anything to ever be said publicly. If that ever happened, the public would turn on him as some entitled punk kid. No matter how valid his position is.

Trying to remember, but if I recall, John Elway and Eli intentions were well known.

You gotta take Burrow if you’re them.

If you’re Burrow you gotta do everything possible to not get drafted by them as well.

Going to Cincy could ruin his career before it starts.

Yup! Cincy isn’t a team going all in on winning anytime soon. Plus his agent is Carson Palmers brother, I believe, so you know how that conversation is going

It's Dak and 2 first round picks for the rights to draft Burrows in his proposal.

Doesn't view Dak that highly if he's including two firsts to get the first overall IMO.

Dallas should NEVER offer that deal but I can assure you that the Bengals would be all over that deal. Dak plus two firsts for Burrow?

They would have a sure fire top 10 QB plus two picks? Dallas would likely be drafting in the top 10 both years with no QB. Lol.

They may have ‘let it be known’, but I’d bet you can’t find any public statements saying so before the draft. Exactly what is rumored to be happening with Burrow.

This is a Godsend to the Cowboys if they take advantage of it.
Burrows would be essentially under contract for 5 years and the Cowboys don't have to mortgage the future of the franchise with a wasted contract to Dak.

Emotions and how it leads you people to make yourselves look dumb. How can I practice what I preach when I said it seems you did aka just speculate? I didn't make any definitive statements sir. Again emotions and lack of reading with understanding will do that to a person. I so badly want to replace a guy who I don't think is any better than. Alex Smith. Yep guilty as charged and I don't use silliness like he won 2 division titles as my reasoning for keeping him. He hasn't improved every year unless you're a fantasy player. Yeah the teams GM said a lot of things but is he signed as of today? If he's not I don't care what he said because actions speak louder than words but I guess you're one of those people that believe anything a person says. If not mentioning what Jerry has said means nothing at this point because I don't see Dak signed as of this posting.
you can line up for your cry towels once hes signed. You and pappy can fight over whose first in line

Just as Bernie Kosar wanted to play for the Browns. So they manipulated it so the Browns could take him in the supplemental draft.
They changed how that worked after that because of the Browns. And karma has been biting them ever since with QB's.
