How long the contract for? One year? Let it play out jeeze.

At the end of the contract we can look back and beech and moan all we want. Crying about it now as like a spoiled petulant child who has zero patience or resolve. Or just something to beech about, pounding your chest like a know it all (who won;t come back when things play out different or WORSE the old "glad I was wrong" gimmick. )

Do you expect them to get better as they get older?

Noticing that they failed to live up to their contracts last year is not petulant. It's the power of accurate observation in action. I can look back at their play last year right now. If you can't, that's your issue.

All the emotionality you claim of me is pure projection.

This is true but at the same time these players mean a lot to the Cowboys and our playoff hopes. IT is what it is.

Poor value is what it is too. The premise of bad value is that we could have gotten more performance spending it on other players. Players who would *mean more* to the team than they did.

Players share of NFL revenues is currently 48.5%. Last year the NFL took in 16 Billion.
Doesn't matter what players get it.

When the players are making more than the owners, we'll see a change.

What does 7 million get you in the NFL? Cedric Thornton? Nolan Carroll?
If you're a bad GM, sure.

Poe: 8-9 mil
Logan: 8 mil
Mebane: 4.5 mil

Since the DT position isn't valued highly, we could get a really good player.

Did we change gm’s? And you can sign this guys even if you signed Dak for 50 million.

Absolutely insane. They actually have a choice. Play for 33 mil and have a shot at a super bowl, or make 40 mil and don't. That's the way it works out. Me personally, I take the 33 and a shot. There are more things to life than money, and either way you're set for life. Why not be a multimillionaire w/ a championship?

I think much of it is status. Contract value is a way of keeping score on who is the best. I don't agree with it, but it seems a prevalent attitude.

They've got agents in their ears, whose incentive is to get every penny. Agents don't a little ten percent ring if their players win the SB.

I also think they look around the team. If they don't see other guys taking discounts, they aren't going to be the ones. Basic fairness.

Lots of dynamics beyond the money and a chance at a better chance at a ring.

Especially when *your* sacrifice doesn't bring you that much closer to a ring. 7mil is 4% of cap. Are the Cowboys *currently* 4% of the cap away from a championship? Looks like we just took on a number of high dollar, poor value contracts. Between Jaylon, DLaw, and Zeke, we're taking a bigger hit than 7 mil in *lost* value.

If we were really close, then that 7 mil maybe tips the balance, making the sacrifice more valuable. But I don't think we are. Defense looks like a total shambles, especially the dline.

If Dak is really interested in a championship, he should take the tag this year, see how McCarthy works out, and maximize his chance to win a SB in free agency, instead of trying to personally subsidize the Cowboys to a championship.

Not if you think the QB market near the top is generally overpriced. If so, even a very good Dak might not be a player you keep.
Sure, if you are cheap and don't want to pay market value for a top-rated QB, you go that way. Good luck winning a Super Bowl.

No, you can't. That's the problem. On a personal level, I couldn't care less what Dak makes. All that matters is how it affects the salary cap.

But dak? Not close at this point. And to want $40 million. $5 million more per year than any other qb is ridiculous.
Nothing in the world wrong with any man wanting but the reality of it happening may not be realistic. That is where Dak stands. He didn't to my current knowledge say he wouldn't take less than 40 million but said instead if he wanted 40 million and he said he'd take 40 million. Somewhere out their lies the truth. We shall all see when it's all said and done.

So is dak’s management looking at the zeke and tank deals and how they handle it and planning to do the same. Will we see the front office standing their ground this time and pushing back.

zeke you could say was the best rb in the league.
Lawrence you could make a case for top 3 at his position.
But dak? Not close at this point. And to want $40 million. $5 million more per year than any other qb is ridiculous.

This just speaks to you not understanding markets. it is not based on your contrived player rankings. It is based on supply and demand.

There are no other pro bowl 26 year old QBs that are potentially available. How many have there been in the past 20 years?

You pay *prices*. You get *value* in return. We may have paid market price for Zeke, but few think we're getting proportionate value out of what we spent.

Before this last season there would have been no doubt in my mind.

What Dak seemed to lack in the elite talents of a quarterback like a powerful arm or pinpoint accuracy, he made up in the intangibles. Seemingly, Dak was able to use his leadership and competitive edge to make that late 4th quarter play that a saved the game or even pulled out an improbable win.

Before last season, Dak was the king of the game winning drive, the come-from-behind phenom. Only Brady could keep up with him.

But last season?

0 game winning drives.

0 4th quarter miracles.

Nothing......

How do you go from leading the league in the combined previous three seasons to absolute zero?

What happened to the steady growth? The upward potential. It just froze. Instead, he actually got careless, desperate, pushing too hard

The playcalling didn't help, man, it was terrible. Even the fancy trick plays were were almost predictable. They were so quick to give up on the run sometimes, reverting back to the disasterous 1st half of the 2010 season.

I don't know. Dak didn't get adequate competition. Even a franchise quarterback should feel challenged to some small degree by his backup

You notice Aikman almost always had a potential starter behind him when they were successful. Guys like Beurlein and Kosar won games by their own right.

Staubach always claimed that having Danny White around made him a better player.

I say franchise Dak but bring in genuine competition, either a high draft pick or legitimate veteran willing to take a competitive but not backbreaking two year contract.

As far as the others like Cooper and Byron Jones, what did they do for us when we needed them the most?

No more massive contracts to any current Cowboy player when the team can't even make it to the postseason. I would be looking to cut fat contracts, not create any more. Nobody impressed me enough last season to say that we just have to keep them.......well..... maybe Martin.
