If Howard is playing, he will be playing on a near elite level. The problem with him has been health. He is a much better TE that 2020 Witten and Jarwin when he is healthy. If the Cowboys bring Howard into a mix of TE's, I'm all for that.
If the Cowboys bring him in, and is the only real TE they bring in, and count on him being the potential starter next year, I'm completely against that.
The move is to just stick with Jarwin..
He’s shown enough potential and I think he does have some real upside that is being ignored right now.
If Jarwin was a 2nd round pick we wouldn’t even be having a debate about who our TE is next year because he has developed and even produced this year with old man Witten stealing snaps from him.
He has stated that he tries to model his play off of Jason Witten, Jimmy Graham, and Jordan Reed.https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id...s-use-fresh-start-offseason-qbs-injured-stars
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
TE O.J. Howard
He struggled throughout his first season in Bruce Arians' offense, which has been notorious for not getting the tight end involved vertically as much as Dirk Koetter's did. The Bucs did entertain offers for Howard before the trade deadline. Going to an offense that utilizes him differently might be what he needs to rejuvenate his career. -- Jenna Laine
I would like the Boys to trade for him. If he does well, resign. Maybe Tampa takes a 5th, conditional to a 4th.He has stated that he tries to model his play off of Jason Witten, Jimmy Graham, and Jordan Reed.
Pre-draft measurables
6 ft 5 3⁄4 251 lb, 4.51 40yd., 4.16 short shuttle, 6.85 3-cone, 30" vert., 10 ft 1 Broad Jump, 22 reps 225lbs.
Most of all beside ability to catch and get deep....HE CAN BLOCK!!!!
His 3 cone which measures agility is comparable to Amari Cooper who is know for his quickness in and out of breaks. But, did I tell you....HE CAN BLOCK!!!
His 40yd time is comparable to Michael Gallup and he weighs 50lbs more than Gallup. But, did I tell you...HE CAN BLOCK!!!!
He was the Offensive MVP of Alabama's victory over Clemson in the 2016 College Football Playoff National Championship after recording five receptions for 208 yards and two touchdowns. His next best performance of the season came in the National Championship rematch against Clemson. In the 35–31 loss, he had four receptions for 106 yards and a touchdown.
So he makes big time plays in big time games. But, did I tell you...HE CAN BLOCK!!!!!
I mean, I went and looked at every single one of McCarthy's Green Bay Packers offenses and found that his TEs were almost always an afterthought in the offense behind at least 3 wide receivers.TE is a vital position in the WCO

Kinda sucks that the eagles got Goedert one pick ahead of us selecting BUST O-Lineman Connor Williams. Heck, even the next TE selected (Mark Andrews) turned out great. We can't evaluate tight ends, never mind that is not the problem (or is it?). We can't develop them, especially with Witten on the roster.
Because he is nothing more than after-thought as TE2 to most defense. His blocking was the worst of the 3 TEs used. You make him a starter, he will go games with stat lines of 1 catch 15 yards. then have a game where he catch 6 for 107 and 2 TDs and then back to 1 catch for 15 yards for 4 games. He has only done well when he is 7th option on the field.
Crazy how we all wanted to get Jarwin more snaps during the season, now we're talking about getting a new TE to keep him locked in as TE2.
